Hi guys, I've always wanted to build a sick 1/14 Grand or King Hauler show truck. I've built up a good Junfac full optioned 4ws $2,100 Tundra HighLift with the right Tundra MFC. So I am familiar with how to setup that annoying thing and running all those spider web wiring to every little light housing. Worst $2,100 I ever spent but the build was worth it...performance definitely not even close to what a stock first generation 3 linked scx10 RTR could do any day of the week for $300 lol! Lesson learned....do your homework! I've been looking at a bunch of Tamiya builds and can't decide which rig would be better off to start building with the Grand Hauler or King Hauler? Heck what are there differences besides more bling on the Grand Hauler? I'm assuming both the Grand and the King have the same wheel base so I should probably get the King Hauler since it's cheaper and try to fit an ax10 loaded up tranny in there a dump that heinous 3 speed....then figure out how to run a drive shaft to the front drive axles which I plan to replace it with either a Chinese knockoff or a front scx10 axle.... Tips or help appreciated! |

scale4x4rc.org has an entire section dedicated to these kinds of rigs, tons of great information on that site for those kinds of rigs. ![]() |

I've built a few 6x6 rigs based on the Tamiya semi chassis. They are quite capable and limiting at the same time. The 3-speed isn't all that bad, my Mean Green 6x6 build runs the 3-speed and worked well for me. I also built one using an Axial trans and Eritex (no longer in business) transfer case. Still have that one and still enjoy driving it around. Either way, the Tamiya chassis is great for a fun project.

I'm just afraid running a Holmes 30T machine wound throwaway motor might be too much on 2s. Should I just stick with the Tamiya silver can motor? On my HighLift I was always afraid of stripping out the tranny gears or spur. There's a fine line between being a genius and an idiot. There's no such thing as asking a stupid question when you want help!! |

30T on 2s will be fine. I ran an old school HH 10t puller on 2s through the 3-speed and on another truck, a 13.5 brushless on 3s with no stripped gears. Only issue i had was the shift pegs for one of the gears eventually started to skip but that was after alot of abuse. Only issue I see is the size of the transmission. It is fun shifting gears...

Anyone know of a successful 6x6 build that uses mainly parts of a Tamiya Hauler ??? | TheHeadHunter | General Scale Talk | 7 | 05-25-2009 11:45 PM |
