Default SCX10 6x6 JK

Hi guys,

Here's my first scale project: after one year running my scx without any mods (except the ones from the previous owner) , i wanted to go bigger

For those who don't know the Hellhog, it's a Wrangler 6x6 with a 750hp Dodge Hellcat engine Hellhog: 754 Hellcat HP in a Jeep 6x6

I'll use:
-My SCX10 (RC4wd AX2 gearbox, Axial 27T, SV3, 3S Lipos, based on the G6 Kit )
-Another SCX10 axle
-4 Link everywhere
-RCOffroad RCX 6x6 Chassis
-New Bright Jeep Body, the Intimidator because it's cheaper
-RC4wd Winch 9.5
-Rc4wd TF2 Rock Sliders
-Axial rear bumper with tire carrier
-Maybe a Knight Custom Andry grills, depending on my wallet...

Still need to find wheels that look like the Fuel Lethal on the real, but i'm completely broken now so i'll see this later

Actually front axle and gearbox are ok, center axle is ready to mount

I'm gonna need a lot of styrene

Btw, does anyone know if Axial Poison Spyder fenders fit the new bright body ?

I thought this would make an awesome RC the first time I saw it, but I'm doing an XJ for my first hard body. Glad to see someone stepping up to the plate to build this!

man i love seeing how versatile the SCX10 platform is. this is gonna be one hell of a build up man i can't wait to see the finished product. I'm not sure what i'm gonna do for my first build project but I am sure it will based from the SCX10. I might use a few of your tricks on my build so don't spare any details.

Damn getting a good rear link setup is hard !
Here's what i've done, but i'm not happy with the rear axle, when you flex it it doesn't stay perpendicular to the frame I think lowering the links may solve this, need to buy a pillar drill to makes nice parts.

Also changed the shocks setup for more flex:
-Front: 120mm Hot Racing air shocks
-Rear: 100mm

I had to fix it higher than the stock tower to avoid crazy driveshaft angles...

Still run well in 6x4 (but my powerHD servo died just after )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53J3KA_TqvU

No progress on body, still not received my sytrene

The progress of the body

I removed the pass trough axle because the driveshaft was way too short !
So i bought a 4 input/output transfer case on ebay, and the gearbox will move under the hood (just need to buy a mini servo)

And a friend of mine is working on a "on axle transfer case" using Axle gears, so i'm gonna be a betatester

The AX2 will sit here, just need to check if it's an HD axle inside because running it on only one output for 6x6 will be a bit rough

I won't have my on axle transfer case soon, so i did this

I wasn"t happy with the suspension setup, so let's do it again !

I still need to lower the rear links mount to avoid this

I finally received my transfer case, at first i mounted it on the stock skid...

....but it was way too high imo ! So let's do a custom mount

I know that the Jeep body won't be ready to hit the trail soon so i did this with my old Savage F650 body and the G6 cage

A bit of aluminium, a bit of lexan and that will do the job

And a truck is nothing with good tires and wheels, so this is my wishlist

I'm actually broken as f*ck, but that's my birthday soon

Finally got my orders

What santa gaves me :
- RC4wd atturo trail blades 1.9 taht almost look lile the Toyo Open Country M/T on the 1/1 truck, and perfect size
- Gmade wheels, that'll do the work before i make my own wheels
- steel driveshaft, because i'm tired of twisting the one between transmission and transfer case
- PowerHD waterproof servo
- micro servo for the 2 speed gearbox
- a Castle Bec
- CI foams but I took the wrong one, they are too small

A day of work later

Finally 6 wheel drive !

Did a try tonight and everything works well (no picture, my phone is crap when low light...)

Now i can fully work on the body

Thanks !

I completely reworked my suspension setup, for 2 reasons:
- angled shocks weren't bad, but not really good either...
- this setup will let the frame empty outside, like on the real Hellhog

By the way the rear driveshaft is now fixed on the frame

I need some oil and softer coils, but i think that could end well if i tune it correctly Maybe i'll switch to shorter shocks, as the Jeep body won't allow as much flex as the Ford..

Looks great. The shocks will be a bit softer when they are layed down and you'll get more travel. Try it out and see what you think before you make any more changes.

Following this build, great build. I have a question about the frame rails, also bought the frame rails for a 6x6 project and found out they are a big wider compared to stock SCX10 rails. The rails are straight so the width is even. I noticed you used stock crossbraces, did you bent the framerails to mount these cross braces first?

Yeah, that's the main problem of this chassis.
The chassis isn't modified, same for the crossbraces, the mods are on the central skid: at first i cutted the stock one and fixed it with aluminium U angle.
Then I went for a custom "skid" (it doesn't slide at all..) as I added the transfer case. But soon i'll make a 3d printed one

The issue with this configuration is the shocks hitting the shock tower
For me this isn't a problem for the rear axles as my shocks are inside the chassis, but in front I had to add spacers, so my shocks are actually \ /
(another thing i got to work on )

Thanks, for the explanation, i already have a 6x6 based of an stretched scx10 chassis, and when i noticed the RCX rails are straight and not bent, it made me think about it. Should have went for a stock SCX10 chassis, so much easier.

news !

EDIT: the working version of the skid is available here if anyone needs it https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3058943

The first prototype of the skid was printed yesterday !
I have a lot of things to correct (either on the printer and the skid), but that's still better than nothing

(forgot to take a pic before it met my good friend called Dremel )

The transfer case screws is where I fu**** up the most: I can only fit 2 on 4 and heads were supposed to be hidden in the skid....

So, roll back to CAD for the V2
