Super Six - Diesel Sellerz F-550 6x6x6 SEMA Tow Rig

I've had the parts to build a 6x6 for over a year and just couldn't find the right inspiration. After seeing the Super Six I knew it was the one. Plus it will be perfect for towing my #Brodozer to the trail ;)

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...2c7c202d08.jpg

The plan is for a heavy powerful go pretty much anywhere rig. Sadly I won't be doing it in full independent suspension like the 1:1 but it will have 6ws.

Parts list:
Body (ies) - Proline 2008 f250 crew cab x2 and f250 honcho

Driveline - xr mod and standard scx10 axles with beef tubes and hd ud gears. Traxxas maxx driveshafts.

Electronics - Hobbywing 1:8 sensored esc with turnigy 2650 kv 1/8 sensored motor. 3s or 4s lipo.

Trans - Supershafty bomb proof with 6mm outputs

Wheels/tires - I want to run voodoo U4 since they look like the Goodyear military tires but I have four flat iron xl laying around so I'll prob get 2 more of those.

Suspension - Custom 4 link on all axles, shocks/springs tbd

Chassis/bed - custom made by me

To get started the body has to at least be roughed out.

I'm using a new f250 crew and 1 used one. Then I have the rear cap from the f250 honcho I cut up to make the Brodozer.

Lots of cutting and resizing of panels.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3d2b920566.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...92ccfcbee5.jpg

It's at a point where I can glue it together now. Then it's time to lay out the chassis and the axles to see how this thing will come together.

P.S. I get asked why use lexan instead of the tamiya f250. Biggest reason is size. I want this to be proportional to the Brodozer. Secondly, I am going to drive this thing...hard. The 1:8 electronics are in there to be able to thrash the living he!! Out of this thing. The lexan body is more resilient than styrene or abs. Plus the joining of these bodies is generally less work than the styrene. Albeit not always as pretty.

Thanks Lee! I saw those posted to FB but I'm kind of fixed on a custom chassis for this thing. The 1:1 has a straight tube chassis being it started as a F550.
Planning on 3/8" square tubing with some custom skid plates and link mounts.

I finally made some progress on the body.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...56e5c08444.jpg

Spent the night figuring out tires and axles. I was debating between wraith axles, xr mod scx axles, or stock scx.

After much deliberation I'm using a narrowed wraith axle I made in the past with an scx pass through and scx rear axle.
The narrowed wraith up front allows me to flip the gears to get all the wheels turning the right direction.

Made a decision on tires too. Going with Voodoo U4 tires. They look as close to the military good years. Plus they'll perform well. Using CI DW foams. Wheels are still in the works. We'll see what I come up with.

Axial ripsaws and falkens with some axial trail readys just for mockup.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...17ad853661.jpg

Chassis is looking to be around 28" long.
The wheelbase to the first axle around 16" and the rear axle around 22.5".

She's going to be a beast!!

The first 2/3 of my tires came today. Wow the voodoo u4 is a nice tire and I think it's as close a match to the military good years and the smooth sidewalls look perfect with the real tires. I'm using the axial trail readys as they're all black so they'll work out well.

Started waterproofing the electronics. The esc has two layers of pcb so we'll see how good of a job I can do.

Then I started laying out the skid and making templates for the skid plate mount and the rear link mounts.

Re: Super Six - Diesel Sellerz F-550 6x6x6 SEMA Tow Rig

I got some time to really start on the chassis. To this point it was just the frame rails cut and brazed with some cross bracing.

I cut and bent the skid plate drop mounts out of 16ga steel. Using an AX10 skid plate out of delrin.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6221692102.jpg

Then I cut the rear link mounts out of the same steel

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ad08ce8a7f.jpg

Got the rear two axles mounted.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...74b076ace0.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3ba123a87d.jpg

Then I got the lower mounts for the front axle done.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1028b800f3.jpg

Since it's a narrowed wraith axle. I either need to go cms or make a custom 4link mount with a servo mount.

Here's a couple with the body thrown on.

Parts come in from rpp yesterday!!

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4efa85b79e.jpg

Finally got some time on the internal cage. It's going to be simple. Really just to hold the body square.

The longest rock rails I've ever made!!

The "D" pillar to start lol

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...25a37d0f7c.jpg

Got through almost all of it last night. It's 3/16" solid rod so I don't plan on adding s lot of support structure.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...88008fce02.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d9c51c8a5d.jpg

And the body is in the paint shop. Going to try tamiya white putty as a filler for some of the gaps. Thanks to superdrty for the idea

Several thin coats of tamiya putty on the joints I want to clean up and she's ready for paint again. I know the putty if not for Lexan that will be abused but I just wanted to try it.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...363990851e.jpg

Based on some prodding from nerby I added jato rod ends to the rear axles to get more overall length.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c64d33776f.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4362cf0ffc.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fd89783b46.jpg

I stuffed in the power plant to the trans. Let's just say that it took some grinding on the motor plate ;).

Should be a beast...I'm not sure how it'll do crawling. It is sensored but it's geared 15/56 now just to make it work. But it's a 2350kv motor. So we'll see.

Are you going to xrmod the front axle or all of them to help with the turning radius? I guess so because of the 3 servos

The two rear axles are standard scx chub/knuckle with some 850 slw hubs

The front axle is a narrowed wraith axle. All have beef tubes in them. I put together an xr mod axle and it was just too wide. Even with some 185 slw from locked up.

Couple more coats of ps5 tamiya and then some flat enamel on the roof grill and wheel wells.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...80b5e4b969.jpg

Based on the issues I've had with the decals on the Brodozer I decided to paint in the patriot logo on this one...plus it's so simple.

Printed it off on vinyl adhesive and cut out with xacto

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...051f364543.jpg

Actually still waiting for paint to dry before I mask it so I started on the shocks. Going to run gmade piggybacks in 85mm length for the rear. Best part of these is the adjustment screw. Allows you to almost lock them when towing something heavy.

I need to modify the front of the chassis. The gap between the grill and the rails is much more than I planned. Superdrty hooked me up with a bumper very close to the 1/1 that I may use too.

Super Six - Diesel Sellerz F-550 6x6x6 SEMA Tow Rig

Since there was such a big gap between the grill and the frame rails, I notched the front of the frame to go up about .75"

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c77cd6d58b.jpg

Then adds tabs for the front shock mounts.
Using 4" gmade piggy backs. Probably need to go with something shorter.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fdc5dc9da7.jpg

Now the front bumper fills the gap nice and clean.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0640262231.jpg

I had to start on the bed. Since I want this thing to be functional I had to go out of the proportions of the 1:1 a little.
A little wider and longer than the super6. My requirement was to be able to hold a 1.9 rig.

In order to only add the weight I need. I am using aluminum and riveting it together.

Started with some angle pieces that I'm using the shock mount tabs to mount to the chassis.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...067b98b13b.jpg

And building the outer frame with the same angle.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6858a39039.jpg

Scx10 II fits!

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...71a581f392.jpg

Next I sketched out some side panels for the bed rail. Came out pretty good on fit. Now I need to drill holes like the 1:1

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...bbd14499b0.jpg

Still need to figure out the headache rack and how I want that to look. Then add some stacks.

Biggest thing now is getting the servos mounted on the axles and start figuring out electronics and battery placement.

Re: Super Six - Diesel Sellerz F-550 6x6x6 SEMA Tow Rig

Started on the front end to get it knocked out.

Started with the bumper. I'm bolting it in rather than mounting solid.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...2ab67f72cc.jpg

The bumper I got from superdrty had a lot of mounting holes for things so I started by filling those in. The holes were done with brazing rod filler. I cut a rectangular piece of steel to fill the front light bar gap.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e39013769c.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...149a0a6def.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...727be490b5.jpg

Next I got the servo and panhard mounted. With the narrow wraith axle it was just easier and I think it'll be more reliable than a custom servo mount.

Thanks man!

It's not too hard. You need two scx 10 axle housings and two sets of gears. You use both output sides of the housings, shave the rib on the mating surface. Then use one complete ring and pinion with just the pinion from he other set.

You can also now buy a pass thru for the wraith axle. It comes on the bomber diff cover parts tree. Same situation with the gears.

The key to remember is that the output shaft of the pass thru axle spins the opposite direction of the input shaft. Therefore you either need to flip the rear or front axle upside down to get all 6 wheels going the same direction. Or use a wraith style housing (from axial or vanquish) that allows you to flip the gear direction inside the diff housing.

Been able to knock things off on this rig off and on over the past few days.

Had to customize a servo mount for the pass thru axle.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b8c9dfecee.jpg

Got both rear axle servos mounted.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9f16acf9f2.jpg

Then cut up the Maxx drive shafts to get the driveline out together.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7091b66882.jpg

Started laying out the electronics.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e9da8c3080.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f1d2d20e83.jpg

I got the rig working just with the esc bec. It rips on 3s can't imagine on 4s.

Once I wired in the bec. I made a huge mistake in how I wired it. And fried the ground wire on the pwm cable.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c727a8e582.jpg

Not my finest moment. Luckily the rx and bec are fine. The esc actually still turns on, just don't know if it will work correctly.

Put a mamba monster x on order. Just had to.

Worked on the rear bed and sheet metal some today. Including putting some grip tape on the flat bed to hold tires secure.

Holds the Nukizer pretty well.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...38f0c6bfe9.jpg

Lastly I Got the smoke stacks started.
