R.N.S. Mack Attack 100% Pure Homebrew 6X6 Build

Well it's almost that time to do a long a waited 6X6 build. Not sure where to start but hopefully i can figure it out...I have this Yeti tranny sitting around collecting dust and like to try if it doesn't pan out will go with the old scx10 tranny or even better try the new scx10 II tranny...
So RC4WD Axles all around .Also like to try leafs but not sure if it flex like i want but will try that to and if it's not to my likeing will go with links...
On to the chassis All i can say looks like a real performer Homebrew chassis by nerby 149 will be the main focus on this build..
So on with the build....http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psasztlnpe.jpg

Basically what MAck Attack will look like for now...

I like the leaf spring idea. I'm a heavy duty truck mechanic and am always torn on trying to build a 6x6. I like dual wheels in the rear, want to make my own spring over walking beam rear suspension. Won't flex for crap but would look legit. But that's where my problem is, I can build a true scale looking rig and have it suck out loud on the trails, or build one to perform but will look like every other 6x6 out there. Plus, I want an American classic truck cab and other than the bullhead or the other tamiya truck cab, I'm pretty limited. They're just knock off peterbilt which everyone and their brother has on the road so they don't do it for me either.

Rant over. I think you should do leafs so I can see how it does on the trails and rocks. ;-)

I will try both to see but not sure if i have all the parts to do leafs i think i missing shackles and front leafs, maybe i could use a bicycle chain to make shackles hmmmmmm..
Like you said if it does flex like i want it to, links will be used..

Re: R.N.S. Mack Attack 100% Pure Homebrew 6X6 Build

That is a really nice parts list, this thing is gonna be sweet when all done, the leaf springs would make the cab and tires fit the part, but the links would definitely allow for more articulation and be smoother.

I'm in Texas and we usually play horse shoes at Christmas in shorts and tshirts. Usually 60 degrees or so. So we don't do a lot in summer here too hot.

Re: R.N.S. Mack Attack 100% Pure Homebrew 6X6 Build

well Renos all done, now i have time to start this build..Not sure what direction I'm going but I'll be playing it by ear.I'm not sure about use guys doing this multi rigs thing but i must have tried 10 different ways to get it right and still not tested. Now with the front i wanted to do a Pan hard so i ordered the kit some links since the axles are RC4WD.....
The shock are tall 110mm and may change them later on but for now it's all i have. i may try the 80mm rc4wd shocks to see what it may look like.
So if i'm doing any thing wrong or if i can improve my arc let me know.
So so far i had to mod and drill some holes for the bottom rear links and had to drill a hole for the pan/hard mount, filled the gears with grease and figure out the front links geometry. So I'll try to bore you with not so many pics......

Good thing i checked no grease at all weird..

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psdc2uodii.jpg
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psz63yxz8k.jpg

This were i tried diferent ways to det up the last seem to work well so far

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psgcet8qnt.jpghttp://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4kybn4o8.jpg
So that it for now doing the front links and with the panhard should be fun NOT...haha still have to find a place for electronics and battery and all the other stuff...

Hey 6x6 owners needed to make rear drive shafts so i used what i had on hand which is shafts from Traxxas slash 4x4 had to cut and drill a hole a tad bigger to fit the shaft...

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5vq73fp8.jpg

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4koza3xh.jpg

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psbaot6acg.jpg

here i ordered front steering links and 3 link pand hard from rc4wd..

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...pseij3gaet.jpg

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3rq3dcg5.jpg

now that I'm not using a trail finder 2 frame a little mod is in the works..I hopw i get this right...still have to mod a place for the servo..

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psbm61bg4u.jpg

Funny the axles i bought from rc4wd were dry of grease but this front axle had grease already installed.

do i really need that link that goes in the rear of the axle
http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psgrefc14g.jpg

here i added and extra hole to install the panhard link...

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0w5ns0l8.jpg

So did i get it right...geometry is tricky...

last one for now....shocks look to tall..

well ordered the front and rear bumper from the scx10 II and decided to use them but i had to make some shims and i know we have a lot of these on hand so i use chassis braces from the old scx 10.....

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psykqnvgha.jpg

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...pshsk3lcok.jpg
because it was hard and still is to get the geometry just right i decided to change the track bar on the outside of the frame..

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psfetzk5sp.jpg

need to drill a hole ...

http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psrl18iu6q.jpg

here i had to cut and trim the bumper to have sit flush with the front of the front grill...

Re: R.N.S. Mack Attack 100% Pure Homebrew 6X6 Build

No harm was done to a band saw while attempting this mod all done with a hack saw and files..
Well I guess it had to be done sooner or later and being my first pan-hard mod and a few trial and errors with getting the right link lengths,I think i figured out the pan-hard.The first one didn't look right and it looked like a half ass job so i change it up a bit to give it a cleaner look and file some contours to try to make it look like it was meant to be there..

I still think the shocks are to tall so i might look into buying some 90mm shocks or use the 80mm i have on hand...
still have to buy ESC/motor combo.

Next on the to do list is the chopping the cab up a bit...cross my figures..
enjoy the pics..
