Looking good so far, Shane. Can't wait to see more!
And to the questions about the prototypes, you'll just have to see what Shane has up his sleeve.

Thanks, I just found some new inspiration on the bumper/bed/metal work for this rig. I have a good direction now and should get cranking on this build fast. I hope, about 6 other projects going on now as well.

I've got metal tube work plans, just trying to find a bender that wont crease 3/8" tube and get a tight bend. Going on a search mission tomorrow.

In other news..

I got in the custom wheels today too. Mmmmm, so cool looking.

Find a coil spring that is slightly larger than the tube you're trying to bend, slide it over where you want the bend, and it'll support the metal and keep it from creasing when you make the bend. Use to be able to find a set specifically made for brake tubing at the local auto parts store.

That bender is really made for solid rod. Try searching for a hand held bender that goes up 3/8".

X2 my hand tube bender goes up to 3/8" i believe, doesn't mash 3/16 or 1/4" tube. never tried 3/8 though

Hmm, never heard of that. My bender shown does good up to 1/4" or so.

Yah, I know, works good on smaller tubes.

I just picked up a hand bender that goes up to 3/8". It's going to questionable if it will stay together to bend this 3/8", 0.035" wall tube, May have to introduce some heat.

I've been wanting to build my own tube bender for a while now. CODYBOY posted up in the tools thread HEREwith this idea (his links broke or somethin):

Here's the photobucket link:

It seems like a good idea. Radius's may not get as tight but at least they won't flatten. The idea is to tighten the screw/washer onto the tube so it can't expand/flatten during the bend.

Thanks guys, I picked up an $8 harbor freight bender today.

Bends 3/8", 0.035" wall DOM pretty easy with minimal inside flattening. I did bend the bottom handle as this 0.035 wall 3/8 is probably it's max.

Whipped this front bumper up

Tacked

I was wearing safety glasses and gloves. Bending that 3/8 was super sketchy on that bender but I got done what I needed too.

I am thinking that somewhere I read you could fill a pipe with sand or similar and bend in you garage for 1:1 bumpers and get a smooth mandrel like bend with little to no kinking, not sure how this would apply in scale though. Food for thought!

Someone at work had mentioned that to me as well. Luckily, this $8 bender did what I needed it to. Got the rear cab bar bent up last night too and the other stuff ill be bending is smaller and can be done on my other bender.

Wanted to do a different front bumper than the last two CXT's i've built and found a cool 1:1 to borrow some ideas from.
