Default How about a cabover 6x6 hauler

This is supposed to be my winter project but I'm having a hard time leaving it alone.

Let's start with a bunch of Axial parts.

I scored a couple axles with some Vanquish aluminum goodness. And an extra with aluminum no name lockouts.

I used two frames for the rear extensions. I'm making this longer than most scx 6x6's because it is going to haul my trail yota.

For now stock trepador tires and wheels will do.

Made up links with 3mm all thread and thick wall aluminum tubing. For mock up I used offset ball ends until the Traxxas parts came in.

And all mounted up.

I wanted to keep everything below the chassis line on the rear to keep the bed as low as possible. Mounting the shocks directly on the frame would let me do this.
So needing something in the 70mm range I dug through my parts box and came up with four TLT gold shocks and two rc4wd gelande shocks.
Removed the springs to run a droop suspension, the soft Trepadors will soak up the bounce for its intended purpose.

Yeah mandatory flex shots right?!

Not too bad at all.

Went with a 35t motor coupled to a 10 tooth pinion. No speed records here. A Hitech waterproof hi torque steering servo. For now a Tekin FXR speed controller cause I had it.
I'll control it with my hacked Flysky gt3b and a 6 channel rx.

Driveshafts are rc4wd Punisher front and Devil RC for middle and rear. Now we have an operational big rig.

Out on my scale course it handled everything with ease.

The rear axle lower links are 105mm eye to eye, the upper links are 115mm eye to eye.
The rear driveshaft is a Devil RC unit and is 70mm long.

Got the flatbed built.
Aluminum C channel all bolted together.

Angle brackets bolted to the frame holes and tie it all together.

Used pine wood trim strips for decking.

With boards stained and lightly polished the aluminum.

I made a rear bumper with angled ends. Will put lights in this.

Searched 1:1 trailers to get an idea of ramp brackets. Came up with sandwiching an angle bracket between main frame and bumper.

Bed bolted back down and ramps fitted up.

Looking good.

It's builds like this that make me want to build myself another rig.

Nice job!

Might I suggest under the bed storage for those ramps? Would be cool to slide them in from the back somehow.

I thought about this. Not much room with the bed sitting so low. I'll look into it more over the winter.

Here's the ramps in action.

And the reason I'm building this in the first place.

Did a little body work today and sprayed some stuff on the cab. Oh and built something shiny for the front.
Stay tuned......

So I spot puttied the styrene back and tried to sand out some mold lines.
Put two coats of primer on then shot some flat black to see what more sanding is needed.
It will stay like this while deciding on color and gathering up the rest of the body parts.

And I made up a front bumper out of some aluminum flat bar. It bolts onto the tilt frame brackets.

So here's the way it sits. It drives and functions. I'll be working on small details from here on out. Will probably be asking for opinions/suggestions.
