Ar60 6x6 wood hauler

Was too excited to start building that I forgot to start a thread so I'll catch you guys up to date. I started with an special edition extended Exile RC proscaler frame and 3 sets of ar60s. I wanted to do something a little different so I mocked up a cantilever system for the rear end and spend a lot of time getting the pinion angle and link lengths right.

I could document everything I've done so far but it would take all night, I'll let the photos do the talking.

Here's a link to a video during the build stage. I'm going to have a lot of setup time once the chassis is fully loaded to get the dampening and ride height to where I want it.

Got a good start on the dash tonight. It's not perfect but looking into the cab it will look close enough!



Finished "seasoning" some more wood and glued it in place. Still need to harvest a bit more to fill it out to the stake sides.

Hoping to get some sunshine this weekend so I can get started on the painting process. If not I guess I'll get some plastic sheeting and a respirator!

Added some stain to the bed and I'm in the process of painting the cab.




Started with a base coat of silver and sprinkled a bit of salt in the rusted area


Next comes the copper coat and a bit more salt for good measure.



And here's where I'm at now, a coat of white. It's a little chilly outside and it has effected the paint more than expected so I've got a couple runs. I plan on doing some wet sanding anyways so this won't be an issue. Just have to wait until it cures so I can mask it off for the red coat.

Well I've masked the body and hit it with a coat of red. Not sure how I did this before tamiya masking tape, that stuff is worth its weight in gold!

The wood is actually what started the idea of the stake side bed. I was cleaning up some brush at my mom's house and thought it looked like roughly the right diameter to be firewood. Cheapest scale accessory I've ever made!

Yup!! Wet sanding is done too, got a little carried away in a few spots but it's an easy fix.

Just rinsed it off and I'm eagerly waiting for it to dry so I can hit it with a final coat of flat clear.

I had the bright idea of not masking the inside of the windows for over spray so I spend a good half an hour with the wife's mail polish remover. I made up for that foolish mistake by applying the decals before the flat clear, gives a way more even finish to the truck.

Thanks for the offer, I'm definitely considering going with the k02's but I'd rather get a pair of growlers. Definitely need another set of gmade wheels to match though. I'll let ya know!

Here's some more progress. First off to stay within the theme of a bush truck I figured a bush fix was in order.





I used a servo grommit (I think that's what it's called?) So the antenna can easily be removed if need be.

The log pile is finally done, its filled out as much as I want to go, just need to figure out how to attach it...


Also mounted the dash to the body. Since its so close to the bumper I decided to mount it to the body instead of the chassis to avoid battery change issues.


Tomorrow's project is headlight and turn signal buckets.

Very interesting on the rear shock set up .Has it been tested and was wondering what the benefit of having the shocks like that...
The reason i ask I'm building a 6x6 also and may change or try a cantilever set up.....
I like salt technique...

There are a few benefits with a cantilever shock setup, Lack of shock towers is nice if you want to have a flat deck. Ride height is easily adjustable and spring rate can indirectly be changed by adjusting the pivot on the cantilever.

In my application there really isn't much of an advantage because my cantilevers are so long and at max compression they are almost the same height as shock towers would be. I mainly just wanted to try something different and if it doesn't work ill go back to the drawing board and try something different. The frame I'm using is extremely versatile and can accomodate almost anything you can think up.

It's f'n cold in the shop so I've been concentrating on some detail work that I can do in the living room. So far I've added a bench seat and also added some axial interior detail pieces that I had lying around.

I had some foam lying around at work so I snagged it and cut the rough shape of a bench seat out with the help of a bread knife (worked surprisingly well)


A while back I raided my mom's basement and found an old jacket and I've been using it for seat fabric ever since! Kinda suits the age of the truck.


Here's how she's sitting now, once the shop warms up a bit I'll fire up the airbrush and get started on some interior paint. Now all I need is a driver.....

I used aluminum window frames for my battery tray.
