| Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Thanks. Much appreciated When I got the rear portals, tried them on a sexy SSD housing. Much better than stock SCX10 housings. What do you think? IMG_20160504_134317 Last edited by cooper_xl; 10-21-2017 at 04:04 PM. |

Pretty sexy axle you got there and those tires just finish it off nicely.

Was anxious to try the portals as soon that I could but the joy was short: 14787717_10211025733510012_564846562_o by pedro azevedo, on Flickr A redesign was needed. Searched inspiration in the high steer arms and found a better design. Dual arms to spread the load. Hi guys, well, I had the first headlights for the 'mog 3d printed but they weren't 100% what I wanted, so armed with fresh noob solidworks skills I tried my best to replicate the real ones: They turned out alright IMG_20160615_193259 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr IMG_20160615_193328 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr Some aluminium foil to spread the light IMG_20160616_113125 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr I think they look better.. IMG_20160617_113854 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr IMG_20160617_113908 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr They're mounted on a new bumper that's exactly the same as the old one. Had to make another because I'd took it to the shop, painted it and someone lost it somehow. Probably thrown into the trash Last edited by cooper_xl; 10-21-2017 at 03:50 PM. |

Thanks The Bruder cabs are 1/14, I think...I've seen builds with scx10 axles with the same problem as you...you could build one from scratch. And yes, patience is required . But it's not a daunting task as it may look... | |

First test on the portals before breaking the first portal box. Very slow because I was running a 70t. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwSk5tnOB-U |

well, let me share the latest updates. I was delaying the new chassis for several reasons. One day, after work, had one of those "now or never" moments, blueprints in hand and 10m later: Looked out of scale, made of 16mm tubing but the 1:1 blueprints showed 17cm frame rails so it will work out Got a Helios 2sp a while ago on a deal and even if it's a small size 2sp gearbox, that size don't allow being on many builds. This 'mog has plenty of space for one.I don't really need 2sp but I dig the scale looks of it In my current chassis, used a Scx10 skidplate but the new one has to be custom to accommodate the Helios. At ride height Sorted out the links mounts. Not pretty but was the best idea IMG_20170131_132754 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr Last edited by cooper_xl; 10-21-2017 at 03:46 PM. |

Hi guys! I don't updated this for a while but it's slowly going forward, one problem at a time. Well, my new chassis has new link mounts so I have to reduce all the links. Also, the Helios it's longer than the previous transfer box so I needed shorter driveshafts. I could cut mine but my buddy The Gamer needed longer ones and we made a trade The axles weren't really finished. There was some rubbing inside of the portals and against the rim. The rims only needed a bit of machining. Pretty tight,eh? : Now I have 2 rear axles looking like this, no frictions. Pretty smooth, actually The front parts are a different history. The steering was kind of limited because the dogbone cup was binding on the inside of these axle ends. On the left, stock. On the right, what I had to dremel to solve the problem: And how it looks without the axle housing: That's all for now. I'm attacking the rear shock mounts next Last edited by cooper_xl; 10-21-2017 at 03:37 PM. |

Do you plan on running pass through or and independent shaft to each rear axle? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk |

small update: For the chassis, wanted better looking rear shock mounts than the previous Some Unimogs are like this: my take on them: Had to invert the location of the shock/spring because of the sxc10 axle. Uses a long scx10 spring and these nice 60mm shocks: Last edited by cooper_xl; 10-21-2017 at 03:26 PM. |

Hi! Too much time has passed. Unimog still is a good truck to build but other project stole all the attention. Tired of having all the parts scattered in boxes, assembled everything to have something to look at The chassis progressed slightly. Has a new crossmember, battery craddle and the rear shock mounts are all in place Already has all the links(i know, Unimogs don't have links...) Forgive me the lack of torquetubes with photos of ground clearance |

| Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Thanks, i tried my best! Well, was anxious to do the motor mount, inspired by a real one but adapted How low the motor sits... This engine bay need lot of work but is doable. Was my first scratchbuilt body and my skills improved since 2014(or I'm more confident of being capable to do better stuff) How the truck sits right now. The cab needs to be 15mm lower. Was on top of the rails on the photo... |
