Thanks! I like to think outside the box, and then build them. I spent more time working on the back part of the trank. Specifically, the troop carrier. Nice box. Also got some CCHand metal bits to complete the Cruiser look on the back of said box. Since this will make it's debut at Axialfest, and the theme this year is Prospecting, this is going to be a Mining Company work truck. Sluice Box in the back? Sure!

Do you have troops to carry?

I wonder how brutal the ride was in the 1:1.

So today I decided I needed to cover that troop carrier. First time I've done metal work and all the pieces came out the same. Achievement level unlocked. To prove I'm not dumb, I tapped all the ends of the tube with an M4 tap so I can screw it to the carrier floor securely without any muss. Hooray for using junk I've got lying around. |

So, here's some junk: Adding some seats to the rear because Troopy. And hey, how else would these Miners get back there? Oh, not shown here, but courtesy of Tekin, I'm happy to report this thing moves under it's own power and doesn't explode. It made me very happy, and many gullivers were chuffed. A simple FXR, 35T brushed motor and 645MG servo is more than enough oomph to make it move and turn in the proper directions on 2S. It's kind of mesmerizing to watch, and makes a lot of nice clanky, squeaky sounds. Perfect for a trank. Can't wait to show it off. More to come. |

| Re: Axial Land Cruiser Half-Track Ha! All in good time Dean. I've got a lot more to do before I go showing off where it's at in video. The basic paint scheme has been decided upon, but there's so many steps to that, that it'll be awhile before I get it outside. Lots of weathering...

So, reusing what I can from the old tank kit, I opted to add a smoke unit and the exhausts. First, I had to figure out where I was going to mount it. Luckily, there's a lot of room under the troop carrier. After finding a suitable mount point, I got some new flexible tubing and routed the exhaust all while hiding all the junk. And there you go, not all that exhausting after all! The smoke unit should wire in nicely to the sound and light unit I have on order. |

| Re: Axial Land Cruiser Half-Track Thanks! Not shown here, but I added a switch and wired the smoker to the battery leads so I didn't have to have it running all the time. SMRT! I finished up all the wiring and added a sound and light unit. I found a decent sounding diesel set and it does the job. I found some actual halftrack noises and if I find some extra time, I may hack the sound unit to accept them. Everything wired up quite nicely and it's all hidden, which I'm very pleased about. I got myself a new bumper which I think is a lot more appropriate to the old mining truck theme that I'm going for. I also added some inner fenders to hide junk. Plenty of room for battery. And let the priming begin! Notice the mesh which is where the speaker will be hidden for the sound unit. Here's the major cut in the roof sanded, smoothed and primed. Obviously, like any FJ, it'll have a white top. And some hooks for the inevitable tarp cover. As I'm finishing up the front bits and the hood mounts, the next step (once the priming is complete) is to paint the entire thing (except the roof) with the Sophisticated Finishes rusting base, then the activator, then prime the whole thing white and finish with a top coat in preparation for some fun. More to come! |

I appreciate the step-by-step info on painting here. I've been trying to get a plan together for painting (first time) before I get supplies, and I've had a hard time figuring out the sequence for the look I'm going for. Curious to see how putting sophisticated finishes underneath turns out and how you "bring it out". Thanks.
