I got a 6x6 chassis from nerby149 yesterday and I am deciding which way to go with it. I have decided to use a 34 ford truck body I have and made bends to accommodate the narrow front body of the ford.

I am thinking about running the rock stompers on white spokes to give it a bit of high school hot rod feel...

I haven't decided on the power plant as of yet, but will probably be a brushed set up simply because its cheaper to start with, then as the build gets further along I will most likely move to a brushless power plant.

Here are a few starter shots...

thanks! its a start...I really like the ford body but it makes it difficult get things lined up right...

I put the middle diff under it and set it where I think it should go, I do need to adjust the links as the diff is slightly tilted forward... I think the 1.55 rock grabbers look good so far..but time will tell..

now I wait for more parts..I have 2 new housings on the way for the front and rear...

I have found the inspiration for this build, I believe it is a german beer company delivery truck. It is a 29 ford truck and mine is a 34 ford truck body, so its not exact but close enough for me.

edit: turns out its a Norwegian milk company lol!

I gotta do some research on this company and see what scale things I could use for the bed

edit: seems this is a Norwegian company, possibly a milk company...gotta do more translating..

edit: yup, definitely a milk company...

got 2 more axles today from another member on here so I test fit them with links I had laying around but the tires on the rear are a bit smaller than the others until 2 more tires get here. the cheap tactic servo is temporary as well as all the links...I gotta get 2 more shocks for the rear to get it to a functional crawler chassis to make sure everything works before I make permanent links and install a higher powered servo. I already have vanquish 8 degree chubs and knuckles so now I need to upgrade the axles with brass beef tubes and then get drive shafts made up.."thumbsup"

Ok, I have changed up the rear links on the rear most axle. This layout functions much better with no binding. I am impatiently waiting on more parts to keep this build going. I have a HH TM 35t on the way as well as drive shafts, transmission, 2 more rock stomper tires, 2 more aluminum Icon shocks and a power HD waterproof servo. I also shortened the rear links to get the rear axle more level and a bit closer to the middle axle, in my opinion it looks better this way.

Do you want me to post a few pictures of my rear axle? I didn't tie them together and It gives you more independence of the axles and climbs better

Basically I 4 linked the 2 rear axles to the chassis that is how it was designed.

Re: allanon1965 builds a 6x6

how does the drive shaft handle both of the axles being independent from one another? That was concerning to me as it seems the drive shaft angles will be greater than if the axles are somewhat connected...

I am a big fan of the walking ladder rear suspension found on semi tractors...one day I will make one for this rig but for now I will stick with the four link. I will see how this second version performs and I will most likely also try it the way you have yours as well. Thanks for posting pics up!

well, I couldnt make the rear axle as short as I wanted due to upper shock mount limitations. I got my set of Icon shocks in and these were from the scx10 1st generation and they are the coated shafts. The shocks I put on the rear are actually the front shocks from my scx10II and they seem a tad longer that the rear shocks were...the rear shocks from my scx10II are on the middle axle right not but that may change.

I ordered the wrong damn tires! I order rock crushers instead of rock stompers...

I have received my power HD water proof servo and a used scx10 trans from a member on here...I also have made a pair of hinges out of styrene and used E6000 to glue them to the body. I have high hopes these will do the job for the forward tilting cab. I also ordered steel gears and an aluminum case for the transmission

I got the other 2 rock stompers for the front of my 6x6, also used some black styrene to close off the back of the cab, just waiting on the motor, rx and esc to finish the mock up so I can test is out on the rocks and see if anything else needs modified.

got my Hobby Wing WP1080 ESC today along with the HH TM 35t motor and the HR aluminum scx10 trans case. Now comes the part I am not good at...adding more places to the chassis for mounting the electronics so they dont interfere with the cab...

I got it running and found out the rear axle pushes the middle axle up against the frame when it starts to climb..this is due to the lower links going up to the upper link mounts on the middle axle. I will move them to the frame and that should stop the middle axle issue. The next issue is the VP 8* knuckles, they dont allow for enough turning radius due to the steering arms being so long. They do have a second set of holes closer to the knuckle but I dont like the look it leaves with the arms having a nub sticking out past the link. The Axial High Clearance knuckles have shorter arms and give more throw. I will be mounting these in place of the VP knuckles.

Re: allanon1965 builds a 6x6

I have tried over a dozen rear link set ups and while the complete independent link set up for the mid and rear axles works best, mine keeps pulling the driveshaft apart. I am using the original style axial single spline driveshaft. When I make it long enough not to pull apart, then it binds horribly as the mid and rear axles articulate, if I make it so it doesnt bind then it pulls apart.

I ordered a set of dingo length Junfac driveshafts and will cut one of those down to see if that will fix the issue. I am thinking it will as I see quite a few of these driveshafts on 6x6 builds. I even went so far as to install the original rubber snubbers in the rear shocks thinking that might help but it didnt, although if I also put the snubbers in the mid axle shocks it may do the trick but I think that will limit my articulation way too much.

Re: allanon1965 builds a 6x6

Under load that middle axle will always want to push up a little anyways. Only to one side though. No way to get rid of it completely, it's the torque traveling through the middle axle.
I also went away from attaching the links to the center axle fairly quickly as well. If you have any questions about rear link/suspension setups feel free to ask. I have tried multiple setups

Thanks...thats where it stands now, the left side lifts up under a load, but before the whole axle lifted up and stayed up even after the load was gone..

I use the junfac drive shafts on the rear put your links on the chassis and put a brace in between across the chassis

Re: allanon1965 builds a 6x6

I've also had thoughts of ditching the pass through axle. I am currently running a front motor with a center transfercase. The transfercase has dual in and out. I figured running a driveshaft to each axle independently would be the best option. Would either have to run a bearing carrier above the center axle to get it to cleae

well, went to the crawler course, its heavily overgrown now, decided to run the 6x6 anyway...got 5 feet and grass wrapped up in all three axles and snapped the rear transmission output. Bummed, but not too much so..I have a HD aluminum cased, HD steel geared transmission to put in so its all good, just hadn't planned on putting it in this soon..

well, I cant get the right look with the 1.55 rock stompers, the axles have to be so far apart for the rear driveshaft to work, it looks out of porportions. I relocated the rear axle and went to 1.9 wheels and tires...
