Homemade 8x8

Building my first 8x8 .. decided to go with AR60 axles and 2.2 wheels. So far so good. The chassis is looking awesome in my opinion and am starting with the drive train. Will be using an SCX10 transmission case with Robinson Racing gears - which will feed a homemade transfer case to feed each axle individually. The 2 axles closest to the middle of the truck will have the pinion spin in one direction while the end axles will have their pinion spin in the opposite direction, thus eliminating torque twist completely. Below find two links:

Here's a link to my page where you can find pictures showing where I am with the build so far and the second link to a YouTube video showing you how I made my 3 way transfer case. Enjoy

What body are you planning on using?

I have been wanting to try counter rotating shafts on a six by. Looks like your going to put it to the real test at both ends. I'll be keeping an eye on this build. Nice work.

Thank you .. Still at the very early stages of the build. I have 3 of the 4 axles on the chassis - waiting for the u-bolts for the last axle, because , yep, I'm putting this on leaf springs. Here's a link where all the pics are so far:

I like the fact it isn't SCX 10 based and is on leafs. Should be a cool build, and I want to see how the counter-rotation drive line works out.

Incidentally today I connected the front two axles to the transfer case and pushed the chassis along the work bench - all wheels turned forward and it was kinda strange seeing the shafts turning opposite one another, but worked well so far even though it only moved about 8 inches :)

There's new pictures at the very bottom of this page at this link

Nice setup. I like the transfer case design and how you are driving the axles separately.

I figured that in a real life scenario I would have wanted my truck to be the same - I would not want my ending the trail to depend on one drive shaft driving both axles and depending on that setup in the middle of nowhere, plus they spin in the opposite direction cancelling out all torque twist - imagine a pull-pal event with that ;)

Very cool build! Thanks for sharing.

I see 2 motors now

Extremely informative video! I really appreciate the depth of coverage and the explanations of the engineering.

Thanks :) Yes I suspect I will need the extra torque to get this thing rolling over the rocks :)

Next up is the steering .. I have the front 2 axles working on one servo but I am not happy with the way it performs .. it is not correct and has to many things that can go wrong. Take a look at my video here.

I am looking for a better solution and today I saw a video which showed a better solution and which apparently is more realistic. I will update you all with the progress of the new steering system as soon as I have something to show you :)

If you want to run 1 servo, I would look into mounting some Bellcranks to one side of the chassis, 1 per axle, then connect the drag links to the bellcranks. Take a look at this one for example. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/multi...ml#post5804852

That is exactly what I was looking at :) Thank you :) :)

While waiting for parts, I decided to give the body a go. Here's what I did so far. This is the way I would like this build to go but then it is all subject to change if need be:

An update:

Replaced the steering system. Old one was not mechanically sound and nor did it make sense, so now I've done some research and gone full on scale - here,s what I used:

Scale steering boxes (you may call them something different)

https://scontent.fmla1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...e3&oe=5BAC8D2E

and here's what they look like installed:

and here:

..... also made this video showing the old and the new steering system plus, the new system functioning :)

Today I took the truck out for a test run. Drained a 3S 6000mah and gave it my all. it was do or die. I don't want something delicate, I want something robust and that can perform well. Here's what happened:
