Soze picks up a HG Model P802 OshKosh M983 HEMTT

I've been wanting one of these multi-axle rigs ever since Cross RC came out with the BC8. When HG Model came out with a HEMTT at the price they have along with discount coupons... I had to pick one up! (Still want to eventually pick up the Cross BC8 though).

Kit:

HG Model P802 OshKosh M983 HEMTT (For $200 off use Coupon Code: P801CAR)

Here is what I received in the package when it was delivered.

Front of box shows the P801. I bought the P802.

This side shows the P802 that I bought.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1807f016_b.jpg

The package came with these 2 boxes. See that handle on the main box? Remember that for later. It's a huge box.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...07d5be77_b.jpg

This is what is inside the smaller box. (Comes with some hex drivers!)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...391b4f40_b.jpg

Here's a look at the transmitter. Nothing special.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...23d86ec1_b.jpg

Here's how that main box looks when opened up. It's basically a carrying case! It's got a carrying handle, it's hinged and held closed by magnets. The truck is pretty damn heavy. It came all "gift wrapped" with bowties.

Going to have to stop here for now... Will be back with more pictures.

ESC and Receiver are tucked in here

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f0ba6555_b.jpg

There's a servo for the trailer hitch/release

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f6afa3f5_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4b42d32a_b.jpg

With the amount of molded detail... this thing is begging for some painting and oil/panel line wash.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...da7c8e6e_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5fffbe23_b.jpg

It's even got some twine!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...56295cff_b.jpg

I have not measured yet, but the tires/wheels seem to be around 2.2 wheels with around a 4.3-4.5ish sized tire. I wonder if the new UGM10 tires will work on it if I make it fit the 2.2 wheels.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...36d0a0eb_b.jpg

This thing is already wired for lights I think.

Side profile (with the deans plug hanging down)

Left servo is for the hitch release, right is for the transmission

Working door latch

Check out what I think is a scale oil separator/catch can on the left (correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm sure I am) and the motor housing underneath the cab! (I'll give a better look at that area when I take apart the cab). The exhaust is actually the handle you use to pick up the truck.

Peek through the crack at the detail of the top of the motor housing

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d6288699_b.jpg

I think there's an accessory that gets attached here (Think I saw it in Frank's HG Military Thread)

Closer look at the ESC/Receiver tucked away in the fuel tank. (on/off switch to the left)

Another look at those servos in the rear

Yup, this is a leaf sprung truck. It's kind of stiff, I wonder if I can adjust it by removing some. It doesn't give the same articulation as a Cross BC8 out of the box, but I think you can with some adjustment.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6e4e99d3_b.jpg

Axle housings are bonafide metal. Lot of heft. Wheels are plastic beadlocks though.

A look underneath

The 4 wheel front-steer uses a 2 servo cable system. I've heard and read it actually works pretty well. I might want to see if the servos can be upgraded though.

It might be "Leaf Spring Mafia" worthy.

I thought this was one of their micros. After I clicked the link I realize this is a beast! Very cool!

I had one of the WL Toys minis and it was garbage. I traded it to a friend. He only wanted the body.

This looks much better. Definitely worthy of the Mafia! "thumbsup"

I'll be watching with interest to find out the quality and durability.

The foam box/case it came with is really cool as well.

Wow can't wait to hear how this is, It will make my beast look small lol

Added some more pictures.

I want to see if I can find a tire that is softer for this HEMTT. Then again, it's more suitable for trail running, so maybe the stock tires are ok. Whatever I decide, I guess it won't be cheap with 9 wheels/tires to account for!

Unfortunately.

Maybe I should take it all apart and re-assemble! :lmao:

Thanks for all the detailed pictures, they're almost as good as being able to poke around it in person "thumbsup"

The most important question is what are you gonna tow with that bad boy?

Very impressive rig. Hard to get a sense of scale though, any chance of a pic with a scale truck nearby just for reference?

Congrats on the purchase!

I second what OSRC said.

Also, is this thing all metal or mostly plastic? I'd be interested to hear what it weights.

Maybe this will help. Almost 16lbs. (scale was zeroed out with box on top). There might be a good bit of metal in there...

I really should put this next to a Tamiya Lunch Box since it's 1/12 scale, but I think the Lunch Box is a litter smaller than the K10 Ascender in size.

Definitely a big truck! Thanks for sharing.

Now I'm looking forward to some running video out in the wild!

Terrific pictures! thanks for the close-up views. There are a couple of items I'm curious about.
1. the sheathed cable near the front steering
2. the spool with the twine on it

Are those things just part of the "high imitation" or do they serve functional purposes?

1. sheathed cable is actually used for the steering mechanism. It doesn't use links, but uses cables.

2. twine seems to be just scale detailing so far.

Ha only 16 lbs, thats a lightweight lol

thanks for sharing "thumbsup"

I'd say a tear down is needed to set your mind at ease, with such a complex truck it would be nice to know all is put together as it should.

Yes definitely weather that body that should really bring out the ample detail.

It looks like a walking beam suspension but with leafs.

Oh and the box it comes with is a nice touch I had to make a box out of 3/8" plywood to transport my 8x8.

Really cool looking rig brother! Can't wait to see what you do to it. I will definitely be following along. Always liked the multi axle rigs

Re: Soze picks up a HG Model P802 OshKosh M983 HEMTT

I am working on a M983, but in a more piecemeal way (plastic cab from Ebay and everything else figured out with a lot of head-scratching). If the fully assembled version you bought had been available at the time, I would have jumped on it!
Mine is also 1/12 scale, and here are a couple of things I've found that might be of interest to you. The Tamiya M1025 Humvee is also 1/12th scale, and can be "updated" (armor package; roof turret) if you want. There is a series of pre-built, pre-painted military figures by McFarlane which are also 1/12 scale. I am using a Navy Gunner figure in the turret of my M1025, and a Mk 19 grenade launcher team figure and weapon fot eh ring mount on the M983. Unfortunately, they do not offer a seated figure that can be used for a driver. I am trying to cut apart and "Frankenstein" one that will work for the M983.
