The King

My first foray into tiny Semis.
So a Tamiya King Hauler was located and arrived.

12+ pounds, no electronics or battery...
grabbed a 45t motor, some alloy wheels, couple of Tower Pro MG servos. KNK screw set, Fast Eddie’s as always makes it smooth. And a modified 6channel radio, along with printing a few 3D parts

The King

First part of business was parts sorting....... sure are a lot!, grabbed a KNK screw set and started this build.
First up we’re assembling these alloy wheels and stock tires.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3a8bea3df3.jpg Both front and all the rear duals for $100. 00 shipped from NJ.
Fit and finish first class!

After deciding on color and paint, I started with running gear first, done in a dark green for contrast. Cleared with TS13. Some parts needed etching primer, others straight primer. So while I’m between coats in the booth, I grabbed a driver , grease , and thread lock, built the three speed transmission.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fcc6072811.jpg

One of the coolest things about semis is that there are so many blingy parts for them. I'm anxious to watch this build progress.

Re: The King

Paint worked out with the weather, only a few minor glitches . Frame and suspension done, transmission built, servos and links done.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...90642a8b40.jpg

Re: The King

Good call painting the chassis to compliment the body. That will really make it pop.

I would like to get one of these at some point but right now the cost of getting one is hard to justify (kit/electronics/trailer) and I dont have a good place around my house to drive it. After watching Loading Kings on YouTube I think I would get bored just driving it around without stuff to go with it like they have.

One of those guys has a Globe Liner built on a Grand Liner chassis that is really slick

Re: The King

Well waiting does payoff, the MFC is here.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f3eb62117f.jpg
So it looks like wiring and planning on the body is up next.... looks daunting, but not so bad if you have seen one wired, biggest issue is the TX and setup for the functions. I solved that by buying the radio modified and set up..... about 30.00 extra over the radio and mod kit. HobbyConcepts is the source of many parts as this guy builds and sells them.

So as I showed a roller, here’s a few more!

Looks like a really cool build Mike!"thumbsup"

I've been seeing more and more of these recently and have thought about possibly building one. These little "Big Rig" builds are really taking off here in Ohio and driving competitions are becoming more popular.

Looking forward to following along with your build!:)

I started totaling up the cost and looks like I will have to live vicariously through you for now. Absolutely love this realm of the rc world. Hoping that you'll have audio/ video when she's ready to hit the road.

Thanks for the comments! This rig gets me back to styrene hard body’s.
My first in RC, but I have done may modified builds. About the only touch I’m doing on this one is removing all mold seam lines and remove and fill the old whip antenna mount on the sleeper.
Spent an hour with sanding sticks and primer, getting smooth, quick mock up to get the juices flowing.

Re: The King

I'd might like to do one of these as the "Duel" rig, but I think the hood would need some major narrowing, and bodywork to replicate a 1960 Peterbilt

Thanks to a couple of 3D prints I planned out, all the parts fit under the Hood and In the berth. Sound, vibration, and the ESC. Plenty of room for the battery, and the rx.
Because of that my full interior will easily fit, unlike the stock configuration.
I am still going to make a drop in plate to hide wires. Some chrome parts need paint so I’m stripping them .
Now I’m headed out for Baby Back Ribs, and cold beer!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...09d3a81ceb.jpg

Looking nice, neat and well thought out Mike. I’d love to see a picture of it next to one of your crawlers to get an idea of size. I’ve only ever seen these in pics / online.

Re: The King

Well sometimes I surprise myself and things work out better.
My original plan was to sandwich wires under a plate between the seats. Careful and anal wiring habits do pay off....before : https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4d9c298348.jpg

After:https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d5b1488bb8.jpg

As you can see the tanks are all mounted up. Location of wiring is critical for easy running and good looks.Still have the looms and fasteners to add.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...86a4ff52cc.jpg

The wiring went quite smoothly, and when first fired up all worked and no blue smoke came out! Minor adjustments as moving servo horn one tooth, reverse motor leads and throttle on TX. Map the TX to the ESC and ...... will it all work or is it a failure.....I could make y’all wait in suspense, but that’s not right..... Enjoy the entry Doin it to it like Sonny Pruitt!

Re: The King

Awesome little run clip Mike. Engine sound set up sounds good, but the air brake sounds really sell it! Scale is not quite as big as I expected, although still pretty big for 1/14. Also, are you going to be running a trailer, and if so, what kind?
