TRX-6 Mini Build Thread
 

Seeing as how I can't (currently) afford the custom cage work I would like to have installed, I decided to take a different route. Decided on an M35/M123 "military" truck.

Figured I'd try my hand at some styrene craft as everytime I tried to print the cab side walls they kept warping/peeling up a few hours into the print.
After some fiddling with my printer, and a new roll of filament, my parts started coming out perfect, outside of minor printing errors.

I still need to do the roof and hood, which will take ~17 hours (iirc) according to Cura. Then there's a bunch of small detail stuff I want to add, steps, fuel tanks, ect. I'm going to have to relocate my differential servos and shift servo at some point in order to line the body up where I want it and still need to figure out what I'm going to do with the rear of the truck. But I'm making slow and steady progress.

Before any body else mentions it. It's definitely, totally, 100% 1:10 scale accurate. If your 1:1 M35 is lifted on coilovers and portals with 44' pitbulls. [emoji16]

I think the cantilever is great. I was thinking on doing it for my newest but didn't.

If you are going to run cantilever (which is great idea) I would want them tied together so as one axle moves up it forces the other down. Its kinda how the 1:1 leaf spring cantilevers work.

That was my original idea, and I'm not opposed to still doing it. I only did four separate cantilevers because that was the was the easiest set-up. requires the least modification and problem solving.

Fortunately, even with it 4-way independent, nothing binds and any point throughout the articulation of either axle. I don't need to change it (functionality wise) but I might anyway depending on what I decided to do with the back end.

I'm open to suggestions on what too do with back half. Although my fabrication skills aren't very experienced and available materials/tools are lacking so I'm a little limited on what I can make.

I decided to try a dual shock set-up with the axles influencing each other. With my current part availability, I didn't like it. Outstanding! I second the idea of the influencing dual shock setup. Reminds me of a swing axle concept:

It is a great concept, as the axles are allowed to move seperately over obstacles without increasing spring pressure, which results in a smoother, less bumpy ride (sorry for the poor explanation, hope the pic helps).

So definitely go for it "thumbsup"

I wasn't really sold on the way the axles move (on the bench anyway). Like I mentioned in an earlier post though, I'm not opposed to trying anything. I'll definitely try out both setups to see which one I like better (in terms of driving performance). The other issue I had with the two shock set-up is without plates to drop the rockers, I felt everything but sat too high.

Unfortunately, life and other projects have gotten in the way and this project has been moved to the back burner, for now.

Yeah with the current cantilever arms it looks like the rear axle just binds the system instead of transferring pressure to the front axle. Its one of those things that you could probably get to work with some fine tuning or different arms, but for now the quad setup will probably perform better.

I hadn't even considered transferring pressure to the front axle. I think the weight alone should take care of that issue though.

As you said (more or less), with the hardware I've got, I think the quad shocks will function more smoothly. Each axle operates as three independent axles, loosely influencing each other through the shocks and chassis. They aren't going to operate in tandem the way I'd prefer (i.e walking beam style) but I think think the weight of each axle should work fine to maintain tire pressure to the ground.

It's been far too long since I've gotten anywhere on this project. Finally, after a long weekend staring at my 3D printer and some styrene cutting, I have an update.

I'm not entirely satisfied with the shape of the fenders but I didn't feel like messing with the design again. I might cut the a bit shorter (higher) in the middle still.

I still need to get a variety bag of square styrene rod and do a bunch of reinforcing then wrap the whole top of the bed with scale diamond plate.

By Sport 6x6 do you mean a skeleton chassis (no inner fenders, excess weight, etc.), locked diffs and a single speed transmission? Or are you doing something entirely custom to add a third (presumably locked) rear axle to an existing Sport?

Either way, I think you would out perform the hulking monstrosity I'm working on.

It'd be cool to see your build as well

I'm converting an existing Trx4 Sport Kit to 6x6.

Have never done a multi axle rig before, so I'm not being too adventurous :p.

I'm planning on using a bunch of Trx6 parts, since I'm a novice. Waiting on a Trx6 middle axle housing at the moment.

Not going for perfomance at all, a nice big reliable truck (or hulking monstrosity if you prefer :)) is the goal. I prefer the locked diffs and single speed though, for simplicity.

Planning on a 3D printed body with some scale bits.

I like the battery container and location you've setup. Have a link to the files?
