1/10 Oshkosh M1070 A0 (3D Printed/Scratchbuilt)

Sharing my new build... I know there has already been so many builds for this truck but i just like it so much that I want to build one myself...in 10th scale.

Rolling chassis is done... 1st and 4th axle steering...8x8 drivetrain

I can't blame you for wanting to show off this project/process. If my printer wasn't occupied ATM, I'd probably be building one myself. Or the Tatra 8x8

Thank you sir SMC-93...only problem i have now is finding a gearmotor combo that can handle those 8 wheels...im thinking of a RS775 motor-planetary gear combo...and maybe a 120amp esc....parallel 5200mAH lipo at 7.4 v...gotta do some more research.

There's plenty of research I still need to do. I didn't even think about motors, gearing, any of that yet. I was still lost in the complexity of the Tatra drivetrain lol.

Maybe the motor/trans combo used in the Tamiya or Lesu 1:14 semis? I know they're a smaller scale than your Oshkosh will be but they always seem to be able to move a lot of weight without much issue.

Yup, i like those 3-speed transmission, they are just expensive....im thinking of trying out a cordless drill gearmotor...i see a lot of used ones like only 15 bucks... anyway, i also looked into the tatra 8x8, those independent axles are awesome, i just dont know if that can be done in RC...i believe they are not on the same axis, the other one is offset a tiny bit beacause of the differential main and pinion gear arrangement....

Did you see this Tatra on cults or were you looking at 1:1 trying to "convert" the drivetrain to rc? https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadg...c-chassis-only

That Tatra has the proper scale drivetrain and suspension, just apply half-shafts and shocks. (And screws, bearings, tires etc.)

Is the transmission out of a power drill? I think I recognize the torque selector from a drill chuck

I thought the same thing!
It even has the little drill bit insignia for locking it in drill mode, without the clutch.

Re: 1/10 Oshkosh M1070 A0 (3D Printed/Scratchbuilt)

It is a used Black and Decker Cordless Drill, 9.6V.... I thought it could drill through steel so it should be able to drive 8 wheels and pull a flatbed trailer.... cant find a better gearbox for a 10th scale 8x8 (most i see are small)... and tamiya's are way too expensive... so i decided to give this a try.

That is an awesome idea!

I'm going to have to try that when I get around to printing/building one these massive trucks.

Its doable...and fairly cheap too, got this used one from FB marketplace for 15 bucks, lol.... heres how i designed the housing/mounting...

https://i.ibb.co/Lp9b0t0/20220305-001258.jpg

I also designed a mock up engine that drops in to the gearbox/motor assembly based on the Cat C18 diesel....the C18 is one of the 2 engines used in the M1070 A0

That's a great looking mock engine as well.

I still need to get a computer that can effectively run Fusion360 so I can figure out how to design things like that. I just can't wrap my head around the complexity of F-360 when I'm stuck waiting on my laptop to process things.

My CAD skills/knowledge are still super basic.

Thank you sir, been using autocad since i can remember, started in version 12 i guess...oldschool...lol...but still works... im now into autocad 2016... Good luck on the F360, would love to see it here.

That "engine" cover is sweet! I remember seeing one of the multifuel engines they had in those iirc, it was huge. SMC-93 check onshape, an online 3d CAD system that's similar to F360. Not sure that requires processing power.

I've been messing around with Tinkercad, also internet based, but it's designed to be entry level so it's pretty simplified.

I'll have to look into Onshape
