| Crawling at the 'Plex'
I revived an old thread on crawling in the RC Tech forums. This is where most of the posting goes on for racing at the HobbyPlex. http://www.rctech.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=76 I posted a couple of the pics from Saturday also. Maybe it will stir some interest. |

I just posted over there, too. It sounds like they want to host comps. Guys, I think it's high time we had a comp. Yeah, we all know Jesse or Gerame is going to win, but it would still be fun. And it would push everyone in the group to build better and better rigs. it also will help push all to the next level as drivers. Now, since everyone in the group doesn't have a comp rig, I was thinking we could assign "scale points" to help even the playing field. Basically, it provides a handicap by giving you so many negative points to be applied towards your score for every "scale" item you have on your rig. I.E. hardbody, working lights, roofrack, Exo cage/tube frame, winch, etc. And then your "scale total" is deducted from your "course total" and then you get your final score. This would give us scale guys (Jesse, Jay, and I) a shot at you comp guys. Or the rest of you could build a scaler and we could just have a scale class. I want to build a comp rig, but it might be a while before I can get around to it. EDIT:now that I think about it, I've got a spare set of WK axles and a locked 'pede tranny sitting right here. All I need is a chassis, some driveshafts, and a body. Everything else I can borrom from the Gremlin. Last edited by JavelinSST390; 03-31-2008 at 11:07 PM. |

That sounds good, but what stops us comp guys from building a comp buggy with headlights, a winch, a seat, shifters, can of Busch Light in the 1/10th scale cup holder, with cut down hard body parts for body panels A comp sounds good to me, but try this.... Next outing I bring the tennis balls. We set up a couple short (3 to 5 gate) courses and let people at them. I can keep a lose score and after that we look at a comp. I think a lot of the guys would like to see how their truck does on a course of some type before trying a comp. |

Sounds good to me... about both the practice run with tennis balls and an actual comp with scoring like Chris described.

Sounds like a good idea to me too. I believe that Chris' arguments are valid, but that's why they have a separate class for "scale" crawlers.

Scoring like that is going to be IMPOSSIBLE to get fair. There is just to much room for opinions and not enough solid guidelines to go by. It will only take one comp guy to through a bunch is scale touches on his rig that don't hamper performance to screw it all up. Know what I mean? |

Yea I can see what you mean. I suppose if we have even 6 people with the group split evenly between scale and comp, we should have enough to get going.

Ya know Chris, now that you've asked about putting up a flyer, we need one. And what information would it have? We need a logo! Here's something I threw together quick This is just an idea, obviously we need to work together on ideas. |

Now that the land next to HobbyPlex sold, will they also be moving the rock pile? Anyone know?

It all sounds good to me! Gerame's right, all it would take is one guy to throw a bunch of scale crap in/on his comp rig and it'd muck up the whole works. I think splitting classes is a better idea. I know I ain't gonna win anyway with my junk so it really doesn't matter. I just wanna compete. I like the Logo's. Those are sweet. But I think there's some other green ride that needs to be on 'em.... SO where's the next GTG? I want to tackle Elmwood park again, but I think we REALLY need to get out to the Hobbyplex and show them we still want to have that rockpile. I know it ain't much, but it's still fun to run on. |
