Well I see two options:
  1. This is a shafty only class and Mike drives someone elses rig. Since more than one person can drive the same crawler.
  2. We allow MOAs and all of the MOAs come out to play too.
It wouldn't be fair to say that this comp is shafty only except for Mike.

I understand wanting to let Mike play with his new truck, but I thought that the reason this whole thing started was to get the shaft driven rigs out and run them.

So . . . Who wants to allow MOA rigs at the "Fun" comp?

Seriously people, we need to come to some kind of "rules" for this to work. If we keep saying fine to every exception then we might as well run an unlimited class with no rules. Then we will really be spending the bucks and driving the new and young crawlers right out of the hobby.

Now, rules. We need some set here soon to give guys a chance to get something together and I think a response such as "well, I am not changing any of my trucks to fit in the class" is bogus and selfish.

1. SHAFT DRIVEN ONLY
2. NO DIG
3. 1 motor, 1 esc, 1 servo, 1 receiver, 1 BEC, a battery, and a light system will be the only electronics to be used in the crawler.
4. 11.5 inch max track width
5. 11.5 inch max wheelbase
6. Tires must me factory (no Franken-tires)

Any more ideas?

Just a thought, I've got 3 of the CORA crawlers that I could bring up. They are all shafties and sporting all the goods. They are all droop setup though.

Well I have no say in any of this since I won't be coming out there but I have a question, why would you want to impose 11.5" limits when 12.5" is already allowed for Sportsman? I understand wanting rules but really writing a rule like that might just keep people away.

I wouldn't want to fool with links just to make my truck fit this class if I was coming, the rest I see no problem with.

Maybe ya just fat fingered it and meant 12.5?

Just don't see a need for this new rule

Because this isn't a Sportsman class.

Just trying to come up with something different and "Fun".

Easy answer, to make this class different from 2.2 and Sportsman.

I think 12.5" is fine. aren't most kits, trucks and parts geared towards the 12.5 length anyway??
I just think it would be a waste of time and effort for a "new" crawler person to try and get their rig to a shorter length. Heck when they get better, which could happen pretty quick for some, they could slide right over into another class with out having to change much IF anything.
That's my .02

But the "Fun Class" is not intended solely for beginners, instead it is a way to get use out of old rigs that have been collecting dust, get more wheel time, have fun and show people a less costly way to crawl.

Well, my Fun Buggy project was only 10 3/4"ish and I'd crawl it against 12.5's.. If the class is supposed to be FUN, "I" think it would be fun to just run what you got. If there's a few rigs in the 12.5 range that's fun, if anyone runs something shorter, it's got to be fun for them or why run it?
I like the NON modified tire rule. I say run what you brung.

Yes, but breaking down a field of 10 to 18 people into 2 or 3 classes that are so similar will water down the competition and make it even harder for those who are new to get better and make it quite boring for those who are already good drivers.

The difference wheelbase will cause the rigs to preform differently and I believe make it more interesting for those of us that will be running multiple classes. If we keep the same spec's, you just set your Fun rig up like your 2.2 and drive. For those of you that race, how boring would it be to have 2 classes that are so massively similar that interchanging between them would be as easy as using a 3rd channel? Because honestly, Ron has run a "Fun Class" or "Sportsman" spec rig for 2 years and finished in the top 3 a couple times this year and the only thing he would have needed to win those comps was a dig and to use that 3rd channel.

I agree with Krakker, if it is to be a "FUN" class, why have rules, I think it would be great "FUN" to run my "Hokey Red Cat" with no dig and 4 wheel steering. I also agree that being different just to be is about the stupidist thing we could do as a club, it seems we are making this entirly more difficult than it should be, if you have a crawler and want to have "FUN", bring it and run it, who nows, maybe a stock shafty with tractor tires will out do your 1000 plus rig.
