Default Northern NJ GTG 1/21/07

Date: This Sunday 1/21/06 (scouting/crawling outing)
Location: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation
Time: 1:00pm

Take RTE 80 to the RTE 15 North exit
Take RTE 15 to the Weldon road exit
Take Weldon road for a few miles and there is a parking lot on the right side of the road.

I drive a grey Subaru Forrester. Look for me.

Hoping some people from NJ and north east PA may be able to make it.

If the terrain in this area is not real good we can always move further up Weldon road and look for a good trailhead to work up.

The next scouting outing will take place the next nice weekend we have. I would like to check out the Delaware Water Gap area.

Hope to see some people

Doug

The parking lot I am thinking about is a bit before the school and the dirtrunners track if you are coming off RTE 15, but you got the location. I wish I knew if there was a sign at the parking area, but I am not sure.

Down by the track may have some spots too. I was there all summer and was not into crawling yet so did not really look at the terrain. Its funny, I now can not drive without looking for rocks. LOL

Hope you can come out.

i won't be able to make it sunday but here is a map of the trails http://http://www.dwmorrison.com/malmap.htm the dirt runners track is at the former ski area. i also believe there are about six 6 parking lots along weldon road and i think they all have names but its just a small sign
looks like there could be some good spots, look about half way down the page

Hey guys,

Well I was out there Sunday (damn was it cold) and did some scouting of the Mahlon Dickerson area. The parking lot I was talking about was the Safron Pond Parking lot. I walked the trails around the parking area for about a hour and found some boulder fields here and there, but nothing super impressive, but some possiblities for setting up a course.

I then did some trail crawling with my 1:6th Nylint for about a hour. This place does have great trail crawling. I went off the trail several times to get to some rock fields and had a great time. Wish someone could have made it out with me. It gets boring alone, but still had a blast. If anyone has scalers, this is a great place to drive your rigs.

So, I will keep an eye on the weather and post another G2G when I can. Please, if anyone wants to go, post it, do not wait for me. Title your threads Northern NJ gtg and the date, and the location directions etc.

Talk to ya soon
Doug

It was cold, but I was dressed for the occasion. Once I started crawling, I did not notice the cold as much, til I stopped. LOL

Would have stayed longer, but wife had to go to work and I had to get home to watch our 14 month old son. But still fun time, I was there from about 12:30 to 2:10pm.

Talk to you guys soon.
