Default piggyback shocks

I was wondering if the piggyback shocks worked like the real ones or if they were just for looks.I like the way they look but dont want to spend the money on just looks.

as far as i know they mostly do work like real ones as the reservoirs hold additional oil? But I don't know what makes that better/

mostly in real life its for heat dissapation and room for extra valving. heat isnt a big issue for rc's so i think its mainly just for looks IMO
