Exclamation Wanna build a LOW LOW buget scaler

I was thinkin of taking a spare chassis and cutting it just above the three link mounts. Then braze frame rails and cross members in then i would use the left over shock mounts and trim them down and braze them over the top of the axles? What do you think.

so you are saying basically

take this:
.. \....../
....\__/

and turn it into this?
_\_______/_
......\__/

if you are going to go to that much effort, why not just use the brazing torch to heat up 1/2" square tubing and bend frame rails, then cut the tube in half?

you get a matched pair of rails and it should come out less ghetto.

it sounds like you're kind of describing a mfm chassis

thats the way i've done em' bending square tube and then i cut it down the middle with a band saw it took a few tries, but i would suggest drilling your holes BEFORE you cut it in half, it makes every thing actually match up a little better.

Pretty smart. I wonder if I can fit my 10" Delta with a metal cutting blade to do this?

Is the 1/2" stock pretty easy to find?

Thanks.

do you have a Lowes or Home Depot close... they have a metal assortment in the hardware section... for 1/2" square tube, it'll be around $5 for 3 ft... or if you have a welding shop close by... you an get it alot cheaper... the shop in my town charges about 70 cents a foot

Make sure that you get 1/2" square tubing and not 1/2" square bar stock.

Is your 10" Delta a bandsaw or a tablesaw? If it is a bandsaw,it will work just fine. If it is a tablesaw,I wouldn't want to try it.

lol..........X2 !!!!!!!!

Guesstimate where you will put some crossmembers and at least drill those before cutting in half. My last project I just used a jigsaw and it worked just fine. Take it slow with a new metal bit and you have a super cool cheap chassis.

Good luck!

It is a bandsaw, I should have been more specific. Thanks for the info. I've never had a metal blade on it, only wood.

Y'all talk about drilling holes. For the crossmembers I had planned to use flat barstock and braze them. Is that a good idea.
