Default new electronics problems

I just got my crawler today. i got it all put together and wired up. When i turn it on. the red light on the ESC comes on, but i have no steering or throttle. Im i dont know much about the electronics. and im sure there is a wide variety of possible cause. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks

Do you have the servo and ESC wires plugged into the RX properly? Generally the black or brown wire is closest to the outside of the case.

Fresh batteries in the TX, on the same frequency?
