| Practicing for Comps?
Newbie ? Crawling in general is super fun and I know it's a way of becoming a better crawler, but what do you guys do to practice for comps? I'm looking for some tips on what to practice on. vertical climbs, side hilling, downhills /uphills with a turn, setting up gates to work with/like a make shift course. Do you practice at the site of the comp? Do you time yourself? Any advice would be helpful. thanks -RCHuffer Last edited by RCHuffer; 09-09-2008 at 10:36 AM. |

Just running your rig anywhere helps out a lot. Wheel time is the most important. You need learn what your rig does and be able to predict what it will/can do in certain situations.

I usally set up gates and put myself on the clock. Run it forwards, backwards, run tighter gates. Give yourself different angles and breakovers, prepare for anything and everything, but simply wheel time will be the biggest help overall.

I go to the comp location and try to run every run that I think we could come up with for a comp. Always try things the that you think are impossible also. It helps you learn your rig and driving in less than ideal conditions and you might suprise yourself. |

Try setting all of your gates at 12in apart Run the course as fast as you can without driving out of control Learn the balance point of your rig Learn to use wheel speed with out screwing up Understand why and how your rig does what it does Try to drive through impossible gates over and over then when you get to the comp the gates will almost seem easy |

I agree with RX once you have some wheel time then go to Gatekeeper's method of practice.
