Basic Electric rc questions.

Hello,

I hope I'm posting in the right section, If not my apologies.

I will be purchasing an ax10 within the next month, It will be my first electric and first crawler. I normally run nitro, but I want to take a brake from all the tuning...and burns.

I am going to order the kit first, Then later, on order all the parts.
Now I've seen prices vary from $15-$100 for the same part.
Im having a hard time understanding what I'm looking for in batteries, esc, motor.

As of right now I have so many specific questions.
I'll try to narrow this down to one simple question.
(with many different answers )

What am I looking for in batteries, esc, and the motor?
What features are a necessity for crawling?
I plan on using my Traxxas TQ3 transmitter, receiver for now.
But I read about replacing the 3rd channel switch with a 3-way one,
is there a how-to on this?
(ok, maybe three questions )

Thank you for your time.

As far as motor and esc i like the novak rooster and a 45-55 turn motor. Batteries the best thng is to get a small pack lipo or nimh to mount on the front axle you can buy the axial plate or make your own. This option will keep the center of gravity low. As far as the tq3 i know there is som how to artcles on here just use the search button but the only reason you will need the third channel is if you get a dig unit or decide you want four wheel steer. If you want to compete four wheel steer is not legal. Are you going to buy the kit or the artr? The artr has a few more upgrades than the kit.

I was going to get the kit.
I would really like to build it.

I would like to get rear steering, And as of now I don't plan on competing, Just bashing.

Thank you for the quick reply.
