| more proof I'm dumb
What is the four AA battery pack that came with my controller and servo for? It isn't mentioned in instructions yet has a plug connection for the esc and an on/off switch inline. I didn't install it and all works fine but I'm fearfull I'm gonna fry something by not using it somehow. TIA... I remain a dumb newbie. |

that would be a reciever pack... you WONT need it if your esc has 3 wires going to it...the reciever will get power through your ESC.. or, if you want to use a RX pack.. you need to clip, and tape off, the power wires between your RX and ESC, and just leave the signal wire. theres not much of a gain in runtimes, except for the added weight of another pack. |

I feel relieved! I'm learning as fast as I can but I'm impatient. Thanks guys. This new hobby is becoming an addiction. :-) |

1. Saying you "WON'T need it, if your ESC has Three wires going to it. The reciever will get power through your ESC" That statement may be only partially correct, many ESC's don't have high enough BEC to fully power the high torque servo's most serious crawlers use. You'll find many people using external BEC's to power servos. You'll want at lease 5.0 amps BEC if you want to send decent power to the servo's. Better yet, get a CC BEC and you won't have a problem, or need the extra reciever pack, or weight of it. 2. I find it better to just take a small screwdriver, and push the (usually middle) Red wire out of the ESC with it's pin intact, and put some shrink tube around it so it doesn't short out. By leaving the pin intact, you can always remove the shrink tube, and push the pin back in if you decide to use that ESC for something else. Also, better if you should ever need to return the ESC for factory service. 3. Not a lot of gained run time is fairly accurate, but......with a reciever, or even better a CC external BEC, you will notice a gain in servo power | ||
