For the speedo's either a Mamba Max or a Sidewinder, Why? Because you can program the settings for brake , both drag & stopping & Lipo cutoff & they are cheap. For the motors 55T down to a 35T brushed, Why? Because of the smoothenest (SP?) of the power & they also are cheap. A brushless motor has a high power start up & will jerk around when trying to go slow & in a bind. The only brushless system to go with is the Novak GOAT as it is made just for rock crawling but cost more & you are limited to 7 cells although some have used 8 cells with the system. Do a search in the electronics section & there is a world of info about this. |

One question. Is price a factor? If not, then mamba max, or sidewinder ESC I would run a novak rooster and fifty five if you dont want to spend too much |

I've never comp'ed, but my AX10 definitely crawls well. I'm running a cheap 55T motor (14T pinion/87 spur) and a Tekin FXR ESC. I got the FXR because I like its features (drag brake, lipo cutoff, etc.), compact size and the simple field-programmability; it also cost under $100. At some point I will probably get the Tekin Hotwire software, which will provide even more programming options. I don't plan to go with a brushless setup anytime soon. I'm using the 55T motor because, well, I got it for free, and it works just fine. |

I use the Novak Rooster Crawler with an Integy 55 turn.... I have always been a Novak guy since I started 20 years ago... And I went with a 55 turn because that is what I seen most people using in their comp rigs.... |

The Rooster Crawler doesn't have an adjustable drag brake. The Tekin FXR doesn't require a computer to set it up, if that's a concern. The FXR is also available at holmeshobbies for $82, too, if you enter the promo code "ESC".

My buddy just got the GOAT set up though, and I may be leaning more towards that, there are some areas I just need to haul over quickly and I can't do it, or when I'm playing around in dirt mixed with rock, my tires don't have any traction in dirt. (rock krushers) Also I see some parts of courses in the comps where I would need a quick jolt of speed to overcome the obstacle, and my current power with my drivetrain wouldn't cut it. | |
