Default Why build a TLT based rig?

I was considering building a crawler from TLT axles and some parts I already own (Stampede transmission, driveshafts, wheels, tires, motor, esc, servo, radio, ect.). Now that crawler kits and crawler specific parts are available, why should I build a TLT based rig instead of something else like the Axial kit? Any thoughts appreciated.

Default Why not..

TLT axles are cheep and you have most of the other parts already. Build a TLT based crawler and beat it. If you Like crawling then look into another rig.

Because if you have the parts, why would you waste them on a new kit? I have a TLT w/ a pede tranny and I love it. Don't get caught up in the race to run the latest gear. TLTs are still competitive and above that, fun to drive

cheers

You cant link to stuff on your computer.

BTW, build the crawler if you like building....if you dont, then buy a kit.

How about because TLT axles have been used since the start of this whole RC crawling game.

Thanks for the replies. I kinda messed up because I thought I was posting this question on the TLT forum.

To elaborate on my question .... why are people still using TLT axles now that there are more choices? (I understand that they used to be one of the very few choices, in the beginning.)

A TLT based crawler is custom and you will never fine one that looks the same. i like the ax10 but every one has one. dont be afraid to be different and do the tlt. and you learn more when its not a kit because you have to find the perfect set up for your rig verse the stock set up of a kit.

You did post it there, a mod moved it.

I still use TLT axles to build my crawlers because that is what I have. There are plenty of options out there for them and they work as good as an axial axle.

Many people had TLT's and moved over to the Axial for a comp rig I had TLT axles laying around and now with the 1.9 class, I have modified the TLT a little bit and have a very strong axle for that class.

TLT's can be set up to be narrower then AX-10s, so if you plan on building a compact rig they are a better choice. A TLT can sneak through alot of lines that a ax10 may have troubles with. 2008 Nationals were a perfect example, if someone had a narrow rig, course one remained doable even after it was tore up.

Thanks for all replies.

Lack of knowledge and limited funds makes it hard to decide how best to get into crawling (recreationaly, not competatively).
Rccrawler is a great resource.
