Stampede 4x4 Crawler?

A bunch of Stampede owners have converted their truck to 4x4 by mounting a second transmission & motor in the front. Has anybody done that, then locked both diffs, and then tried crawling with it? How would it compare to crawler specific rigs that usually use a solid axle? Has anybody done this?

hey

I have done it, and it sucked. You will always mess up stubs and driveshafts. If you replace them with CVDs you might be ok, but I did this 3 years ago before the steel gears were available, so I would strip a diff gear every time I ran after I up graded to CVDs.

It alot of money to spend for something, when you can just buy AX-10 axle for $40 per axle.

Read this to understand why we choose solids axles in general:
http://www.stunkworks.com/jeep/ifsvssolid.html

Solids axles handle and perform better than the independent suspension...FOR ROCK CLIMBING or similar situations. On the street or dirt, the stampede style suspension performs well. If you try to climb rocks, not so much.

I should also say that there have been some bad ass stampede crawlers built, but they require a fair amount of work and time to get set up right.
