gearing question i'm using a novak 55 turn in my ax-10. i started out with a 14 tooth pinion then changed out to 20 tooth. what are some disadvantages of doing so if any at all. to be honest i'm enjoying the bump up in wheel from doing so but really liked the torque i was getting from using the 14 tooth. |
You answered your own question. With the 14t you get more torque but, sacrifice wheel speed. And with the 20t you gain wheel speed but, loose some torque. You could try a couple in between and find a balance you like. |
You will see decreased run time with your battery too. If you like that wheel speed, start looking at bigger batteries (more voltage) with your original set up... or the same voltage but a numerically lower turn motor. 35T or 45T motors are usually a pretty good middle ground. Get a handwound motor and you get the wheel speed but won't lose any torque. |

Really? What kind of runs are you getting with the Rooster crawler and the 55 motor? I have a friend looking to get a Rooster Crawler and the 55 combo. He was hoping for a 20 min run time on a 1500 pack. I'm just wondering if he's going to achieve that or not. |

Thanks for the info! When he asked me what kind of run times he could get, I told him probably 15 to 20 mins tops. I guess I wasn't to far off. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. |
