A 55-turn motor provides really good low-speed crawling and torque, but not as much wheelspeed. A 35-turn motor will give you a lot of wheelspeed, but you may want to use a 12 or 14-tooth pinion with it for decent torque at lower speeds. I have used both a cheap Integy 35T and 55T motor with my FXR, and I think I prefer the 35-turn with a 12T pinion. As for batteries, I'm using a 3S 2200mah 20C Lipo, which has worked quite well for the past few weeks for me.
