| RC Powdercoating?
Hey guys, I'm not a vendor or trying to sell a pitch or anything like that, I'm a dairyman that also does powdercoating on the side. I want to experiment with powdercoating some plastic rc wheels, yes you can powdercoat plastic, i'll post the results on some scrap wheels I have when I get around to trying it. Is there anything else that I could powdercoat on crawlers? I know that anodizing is the finish of choice for rc parts, but with powdercoating there are some more options like wrinkles and veins. Let me know what you guys think, and let me know if you think i'm outta line, thanks

I'd be interested in the plastic pc results. I imagine it's a lot more expensive that using RIT dye? As for other parts, powdercoating tuber frames would be my biggest interest. Rattle can finish works well on the cheap, but definitely lacks a bit in durability ! |

I couldn't really charge much because the parts are so small, and yes it's rediculously durable, I know because i've had to strip powdercoating before, it's not fun, you can't media blast it off, you have to either torch it off or use paint stripper 3 times, even still it amazes me how tuff it is. Might be a different story for plastic, we'll see. One thing with tube frames, if it's soldered copper, the solder might melt because I have to heat it up to 400 degrees to cure the powder, if so let me know what solder your using so I can experiment with it

x 2 on the tubers. I think a lot of tubers are tig or mig welded. I would like to know how well your links would slide over the rocks if you powder coated them. |

If you wanna get technical, maybe a wrinkle finish would have less surface area to make friction with the rock because of the tiny raised edges, hey it could be true lol |

Most people either weld or as I do, use a high silver content braze (Harris Safety Silv). Melting point is around 700C (1300F), so no problems with powdercoating.

I powdercoated a tuber...was pretty ease to do and it is very durable! I used a cheap kit from harbor freight and an old electric oven... I would be interested in the plastic though...I thought the plastic wouldn't do so well in the oven though...why I never tried. |
