The best place, in my humble opinion, is your Local Hobby Shop (LHS), they should be able to talk you through the best setups, spring rates, and shocks.

If you don't have a LHS to goto, try someone of these guys:
CKRC
The Crawler Store
Tower Hobbies
The 'For Sale' section of these here forums...

Hope this helps.

traxxas big bores and losi crawler shocks are popular, as for spring rates people use all sorts of different springs to suit their style of driving and terrain, its mainly trial and error

you could go to a hardware store and get springs that fit inside the stock shock body,

then you can experiment w droop, 50/50, and internally sprung configurations to you hearts content.

and springs are less than $1 each. so that cuts your new shock cost by like 1000%?

That is truely sad, but not unexpected. There are two LHS I go to, one is the same way, they know little about land RCs, their main money maker is aircraft. The other has a pretty good clue.

I have heard nothing but good things on the Losi shocks, I think they are 20 bones a pair.

lol the hobby shops you have to go to are the ones that are run by just one guy. lol every big hobby shop i got to they know crap about most stuff. but those small shops they have to know there stuff in order to even start the shop in the first place
