Okay i have read on a few threads about putting holes in my tires. It seems to me this would be to allow more air flow which would allow them to flex better and get better traction. If I'm wrong let me know. Plus how many holes should I use and how big should they be.

your totally right. on my rig i got one 1/16 hole in each rim. ive read people putting two 1/8 holes per rim its your preference.

i think his question was more towards actually putting the wholes in the tires not the wheels.

i know some people put them in the tires themselves but i would be scared of the tires ripping. but thats just mean. i know alot of people do it that way but ill stick to putting the holes in the wheels

Hey Jeff, got the crawler finially. Sweet. you wan to put the holes in your RIMS, NOT the tires.

the rubbers are to thin, if you put a hole in the tire, it will likey tear the first few times it gets bound up.

1 or 2 1/8 inch holes on opposing side of the RIM is where you want to put the holes.

not true... ive been running my losi rock claws forever with holes in the tires, and ive gotten em bound up plenty- just ask the fvrcc guys

mine have not torn at all and ive been running em that way for almost 2 yrs.

although its more preferred to put holes in the wheels.

Every tire I have has holes in them, not the rims. I use a leather punch like this to add my holes:

I usually do 2 holes per tire. I've never ripped a tire from putting those holes in it either. Now sidewalls on a set of panthers on stock berg knuckles is a different story.. haha In my opinion, tires are much easier to put the holes in, and also, you don't have to drill into a set of nice looking Vanquish or Mayhem rims if they already don't have them.

Shell casings also work really well as a hole punch for soft materials.

Just gotta drill a little hole in the end so you can push all the "chads" out once in a while.

I tried putting holes in my tires and it doesn't work as well as putting a hole in the wheel. And you could rip one if they are a thin tire like a panther.

Honestly, you'd have to be doing something pretty crazy to rip a tire from the hole in the tread. As many in my club will attest, I put my rig through the paces as hard as I can most of the time, and I've never torn or ripped a tire from putting a hole in the tread

I'm not going to say that it is impossible, because well.. that's just an idiotic statement. But, the likelihood of doing that is really really low. The panthers stretch more than any other tire I've ever seen. They don't tear as easily as one would think. All of my tears have come from the stock knuckle and the screw that holds the tierod on.

i stand corrected. i figured the tires would tear around the hole area. but after yanking and afew i have here pretty hard, i can see it would take alot. chalk one up to the learning curve.

No, I didn't get my rig yet. I am waiting for it in the mail still. I was told it was shipped out on the 5th but still haven't recieved it. If it comes today I should be able to get it together and join you guys on sunday.

Thanks for all of the advice on the tires.
