Default Crawler q's...Losi crawler

I plan to get into rock crawling soon.
I'm no newbie to R/C, but have never pulled the trigger on a rock crawler yet.
I plan on waiting for the Losi to come out.
My first question is what to use for a motor, being that it is worm drive, and lower geared than most. Would a Velineon 3500 be okay, or do we want something with more torque, and less speed yet?
I assume, being worm driven, you won't need a drag brake, which allows more choices for an ESC.
I also don't quite comprehend the whole dig thing.
I understand that it allows tighter steering, but not how to use it, or exactly how it works on the Losi.
I am also looking for suggestions for TX/RX. I assume any 3 channel would work, but what would work well on a budget?
I have been doing some searches here.........quite a bit of info to be had.
Still.....I have to ask.
Thanks in advance

You will probably want something with more torque. That is a horsepower motor that works well in bashers, but probably wont in the Losi. Also, your assumption is correct, you likely wont need a drag brake, however, the Castle Creations Sidewinder (which is my ESC of choice) has a programmable drag brake (if you purchase the Castle Link). As for the radio system, the DX3R is a good choice.

As for motors there are really in my oppinion two schools of thought.

Lots of torque and low RPM (similar to a diesel American truck) don't have to gear down as much.

or Lots of RPM (similar to a 4cyl gas Toyota) gear down way down.

Since we are dealing with itty bitty toys, I prefer the latter, it helps smooth out the throttle response.

The recommended motor from Losi is a 17.5T, a high-torque, high-turn crawler motor would make this thing painfully slow. It developes its torque through the speed of the motor, not by the low-end grunt of the motor itself. No drag break is required, the only way the worm gears will turn is if there is power going to the drive shafts.

How about something like a Holmes 35-45T (P-94) motor or maybe a puller motor. I am also going to buy one of the Losi's (in flippin May) and am having the same problem with the motor choices. I want a fair amount a wheel speed but probably not as much as a 7T cobalt puller.
