How to climb steps I have a Duratraz Cliff Climber... Can anybody Please give me directions as to, how I can climb/ crawl over stairs ? |
not even sure if it's possible with a cliff climber (it's not even possible with my comp 2.2). try a longer wheelbase and much bigger tires. why do you want to climb stairs? isn't it much more fun on the rocks? |

One at a time |
climbing stairs, for me came down to tire size, wheel base, and break over angle. I could do it with my super, but not my 2.2"thumbsup" |
You need a super to crawl stairs...or, try stretching your cliff climber to around 16 or 17 in wheel base |
I live in a apartment complex and i have stairs but no rocks to crawl on... I have seen videos of crawlers climbing over odd shaped rocks.. so was thinking there should be some technique to climb stairs.. How can increasing wheel base help me ? I think, it would start resting on chasis with a longer wheel base. I'am facing this issue now. Front wheels climb the step and the chasis gets rested on the step with front wheels in air. Rear wheels donot turn at all (probably its too much for rear wheel to push entire wait up) I guess 2.2 is 2.2" wheels.. right ? What is super? |
So after you climb the stairs wat are you going to do with your crawler?? |
supers are the BIG crawlers, like clods... they are massive in comparison to the 1:10th 2.2s,, i think supers are around 1/6th scale |
you must have alot of front axle weight bias and use one of 2 techniques depending on the stairs depth. your also gonna need at least 33% more wheelbase than the step height your trying to climb. deep stairs (12 inchs or more) simply pull your front tires up to the edge and pop it enough so that when it lands on the skid the front end falls down on the step at full throttle and pull yourself up (let off quickly so you dont bounce back off the next step. short stair depth you have to take it at a 45 degree angle and begin turning parralel to the stair trying to keep the downhill tire as close to the edge as possible till the weight of your leading front tires pull it back down. when you get to the edge your gonna have to pull your front end up the next step and dig or bounce till your pointed back the other way. "thumbsup" |
Wow, a 2.2 comp can't climb most stairs? :-( |
If it was a 2.2 stick chassis, it might be able to. If you can get a 90* break over clearance and a lot of front weight bias, you should be able to. But like jfraymond said, the depth of the stair tread will require different techniques. |

I'd say you need at least 15-19" WB and 6" ground clearance to be really effective (at climbing stairs). but it will be worthless everywhere else. good luck"thumbsup""thumbsup" |
What about grippy carpeted stairs, I'm guessing most 2.2 would be able to do those stairs. |

A single step is very doable. |
I have climbed stairs.. They were cement stairs and 4 steps in total.... My rig.........................Berg KK zero "t" running pro wind axiam 55t. 3S.................My shafty just struggles the berg went all 4 steps to the top...... I used an angled approach.... then dig change directions repeat.... And that was with my 1st pack ever running a berg ot torsion style rig.... Somthing must be set right becasue I am far from a skilled climber.... Oh and useing losi claws... 6oz front 3 0z rear in each tire... |
my 2.2 will climb cement stairs all day long....with no dig or romping....long as they are not too tall but it will climb the front porch to my house easy witch is a standard step height you just have to use the angle approach.....but my 2.2 will not/can not climb stairs in my house because they are undercut. BTW rocks are way funner then stairs..lol |
