So im a complete noob to this stuff, but i was wondering which crawler i should go with. I like traxxas stuff as its pretty simple and with the summit i can also just bash around with it. it seems like a pretty capable crawler but i may be wrong. on the other hand i have been looking at the axial ax10 scorpion. please dont try and change my mind and try and say buy the integy or losi trucks as i do not want those, but anyway... this crawler seems incredible but i am not able to bash around with it. but i do have a modifed stampede that i am able to bash around in. both the summit and the axial are around the same in price with what i want to get for them so thats good... im just not really sure what way to go... any thoughts would be helpful and be nice! im a noob! lol

If you want a basher, the Summit is it. If you want to get serious about rock crawling, then you get the AX-10. The Summit can drive over rocks, but you can't do the slow, precision control that is required for actual rock crawling. Rock crawling is not just driving over a pile of loose rocks on flat ground. There's much more involved than that.

It depends on if you plan to compete or just bash around. I have a Summit and i started into crawling with an ax-10. The summit is not going to be a competitive rock crawler without modifications to the chassis, its so large it can only compete in the super class but its not quite to the minimum wheelbase requirements so you would need to build a custom chassis. The ax10 is not a competitive crawler either, i know people are going to hate to hear this and there are people out there who compete with a stock ax10 but honestly you will need probably another $200 in upgrades plus the cost of the truck if you buy the kit or the artr. Plus electronics. If you want to start out on the right foot and get into crawling wait another 2-3 weeks and get the Losi Comp Crawler. For the cost it has everything you need and more at a great price and you will only need to get electronics. Even if you never plan on competeing and just want to crawl you will be better off with a much more capable rig for a great price and if you change your mind later and want to compete you will already be ready.

I was in the same boat as you about a month ago. Traxxas Summit a good rock crawler? I already have an older RWD buggy to lightly bash with so I went with an ARTR and +$400 of upgrades/parts. Been enjoying it so far but something to keep in mind, it's kind of like an airplane, you need good driving areas. See.. Rocks, where for art thou Rocks ?? Summit is a 13lbs tank, way too huge. I'm looking into getting one of these(the smaller one) ![]() lock the diffs, put on some larger grippy tires as my new waterproof basher.

The SCX10 would also be worth looking at IMO. The SCX10 has more chassis room for electrics which is nicer for a basher and is still a fairly capable rig in the rocks. You can also convert the SCX10 over to an AX10 in the future or vice versa for little money. Just a thought.

Bashing = Summit Crawling = AX10 Something else to look at is the cost. The Summit is $500 plus batteries and a charger, so if you got a good set of bashing batteries like the GP3300, that's $60; then throw in a charger, lets say an Onyx 240 (It'll charge two at once), that's another $90, you're now sitting an right around $650 ($725 with tax). For $500 you could get an AX10 and make it comp-ready.

The Ax10 or the Summit? Not even close its the ax10. The Summit is a basher not a true rock crawler. I had a E-Maxx with lock diffs that perform just as good on rocks as that Summit. If you want to push your rock crawling skills you will buy the Ax10. Buy the Ax10 you wont regret it.

You may want to buy both of them. You will not be disappointed. I did, and the two trucks are very different "fun" factors to enjoy

Depends on where you bash. We use the locally carved out back country BMX bike and motorcycle tracks for bashing our Summit. The smaller cars, even 4WD can have ground clearance issues. The Summit is the best basher I've ever owned.....

I currently work at a hobby shop in AZ and alot of people come in asking these questions, it's pretty easy. If you want to bash - get a basher, if you want to crawl - get a crawler. The Summit is pretty cool, the guys at the hobby shop are dreading having to take one apart to fix it for impatient customers. There is a lot going on inside that chassis. Good luck and either way, we look forward to selling you parts for whatever you pick.

well i think im going to go with the axial... i forgot to mention the axial im looking at is the ckrc kit b that comes with electronics and im planning on getting the bent links sintered lockers and rear axle lock outs from the ARTR kit... and go from there... the CKRC kit comes with novak rooster crawler esc, batteries, futaba radio, motor etc... so all told its about the same price as the summit so that wasnt an issue... i have a stampede that im going to pimp out for just bashing so i dont really need a basher... plus i was reading a lot of the summit threads and it seems like that thing strips parts like nobodys business... so ill go with a better crawler. and i was looking at the scx10 and the scale look is pretty damn cool... but i want to eventually climb some huge stuff as i visit arizona a lot lol... and if i want a nice basher ill someday get a summit... it seems like a beast for pretty much whatever you want. or ill get that new mini revo... that thing looks pretty sick. i was looking at getting one of those until i stumbled onto crawling and decided to get into the awesomness of it. i have batteries and a charger from my 'pede so that would help with the price for anything else and the axial kit im looking at comes with split batteries and a charger too... so im pretty sure im set in all areas no matter where i want to go lol... thanks for all of the input and ill post up pics of what i get when i do get around to purchasing it!
