Nope, 4.0. Although running 2" shocks on a 4.0 seems kinda odd.

You got a pic of your progress?

edit: Also, do you have a weight for your's? I was shooting for 4-4.5lb, and am at 5 right now.

i've got a pair of the cobalts also, but haven't got them running yet. they're fairly easy to install and seem to fit well, i just think i'm gonna order some new pinions for them since i can't get the stock pinions removed from the stock motors. which servo are you running cvona?

How long did it take to modify the gear case? How are the internal parts holding up?
I'm waiting for the review of the Colbalt motors before I think about this option. I still need to make the wiring changes...

sorry it's taking a while on the cobalt update guys. i picked up pinions for them and tried the install. the pinions didn't have holes all the way through so i had to drill them out or they wouldn't work. i'm kinda questioning whether or not i should run them because it thinned the walls out a lot when i drilled them to fit. at any rate...i'm gonna run a few packs through them and see how they do, then i'll post a review. based on running my rig through my apartment a bit, the cobalts do have a bit better wheelspeed, but they seem to be really loud motors.

i ran my motors and they were good. It didn't take long at all to cut and i never went into the spur gear shaft, I made the cut round so it would look stock. Friday the rooster and new shocks come, I just picked up the dx 3.0 i guess i will see how this combo works out.

so i got my cobalts installed last night and ran 2 packs through them today and so far i'm pretty pleased. all the internals look fine. i picked up some 10t 48 pitch pinions from rc4wd.com (part num. X-0029) and they fit really well, much like the stock pinions. they clear the suspension links just fine and don't seem to get in the way of anything. the motors do have more wheel speed, so at first that takes a little getting use to. so far, they seem to be a worthy upgrade, especially for my rig and where i crawl. i was able to get up and over stuff fairly easily that i couldn't climb with the stock motors. if you guys can find the cobalts, i would suggest picking up a pair. i ordered mine from cermark.com...but i noticed they're no longer on the site for some reason.

here's a shot of the bottom of the truck showing how the motors fit...i didn't have to modify anything at all.
second shot is of my rig in it's current form.

rig upgrades include: hitec 645mg servo, white compound rovers, proline memory foams, axial xc-1 body, locked out rear steering, removed wings that upper links mount to and 4-linked it, did the wiring mod mentioned...further plans in the works

Looks like a winner on the motors - what part did you use to remove the wing over the axles? I have mine on the stock wing position and seperated the single ball joint at the chassis, but removing the wing looks good.

i took the wings off front and rear, cut out a small 1/2'' by 1/2'' square of aluminum that's about 2mm thick, drilled 2 holes in the bottom part of the aluminum and used the wing screws to mount it to the gear box where the wing mounted, then drilled another hole at the top of the aluminum piece for the 4-link. added some rod ends to the upper links and used an allen bolt/lock nut to hold everything together. it's not pretty, but it works. it's really close to what was done in this thread Another RedCat RS10 , but i think he used an existing part instead of making one
