Is this a good place to start for a backyard rig or is the sticker on this too good to be true? Any recommendations on a RTR rig I can get into for under $300 is welcome.

It is an untested rig and do you want to be the first to get it?

The pictures actually dont look too bad. I can tell you that the electronics that redcat uses are normally cheap chinese stuff. If you were an experienced crawler looking to expand the hurd, I would say go for it you can always modify it... For someone getting a first crawler, look at either 1 of the new ARtR trucks from RC4wd or the Axial RTR.

Axial's "RTC" crawler seems like the perfect beginner rig. It has all the features you want in a competition crawler, right out of the box.

Should be around $300 I think. Much better quality than Redcat and replacement parts are plentiful.

i wouldnt buy that redcat crawler it looks just goofy and looks like its just made with spare parts id go axial they are almost bullet proof right out of the box"thumbsup"

I've never owned a redcat but I've never heard good things about them. If you want to crawl out of the box you should wait a few weeks for the Axial RTC (ready to crawl). It looks really promising and since it's Axial the aftermarket support will be great.

Looks like the RedCat has Axial beadlocks and Rock Lizard tires.... maybe the axles are Axial MOA prototypes. :roll:

Thanks for the advice guys, I was looking at that Axial stuff but must have missed that that had out of the box models. How well do the RTR model do with modification into a crawler? Starting out I think I would like the option of having a bash around truck and build a more serious model later on. Does the RTR crawl well with the included lower gear installed? The RTC model does look sweet though, may be worth waiting for...

If your serious about getting into crawling and competing... the RTC will be byfar the better choice. Other wise you'll be spending $260 on an RTR and replacing everything with $400 of stuff. The RTC will be a great starting point and allow you to jump right into comps without a lot of mods.

If you can't wait for the RTC, then pehaps the ARTR is the way to go for you. It's a good starting point I think. Maybe an hour to get running if you know how to solder.

I came from nitro RC's w/o too much knowledge of electric. The AX-10 ARTR has worked out great for me so far and has stated, they are pretty tough out of the box.

I got the RTR as a gift and it's great right out of the box.

Not comp ready but fun for bashing around the backyard.

I've already upgraded the plastic links, tires, moded the rims and body, and will be picking up a rooster crawler combo next week.

with the rest of them....let the redcat get ran for a bit before you go and get it....but, get the axial or go to the bay and pick one up....

That is what I was thinking. Plastic MOA's axles :shock:. I would probably get the axles just to try them out

I work at a LHS in AZ where RedCat is based and no hobby shop in the valley will carry redcat stuff. The products just arent as durable as other manufacturers and their customer service is not very good. I guess this is why I would be a bit worried even if the price is great. I watched the YouTube video and wasn't very impressed either. But who knows, the truck could be amazing with some slight mods.

are you talking about the rs10 or the super crawler? rs10 looks quite well made...

still digging the cow catcher on the front, except it seems they have added a touch of Voltron to it...

I vote that any R/C manufacturer that plans on releasing a crawler MUST surf the RCC for at least half a year before they release their "crawler". :shock:
