Take the trans out and get some TLT axles. The amount of money and time you will spend on the Traxxas will be 2 to 3 times more then dropping the trans in a TLT, and in the end you will by happier.

Once I get my actual TLT crawler up and running I plan on building a stampede 4x4 crawler, mainly to see if there is a difference, and if it is better than a TLT, pretty much shove it in everyone's face. Someone has built one, check all the ORCRC crawl pics, theres one in there somewhere.

i have thought about a pede crawler and its soooo easy its silly.... best bet.. grab 2 back ends from a pede..... bolt them to either a home made chassis (piece of 3mm 3003 alum. or 6061 alum.) and go... or modify a stock chassis.... then lock the trannies, add ur radio gear... its simple.. takes a little bit of time... but it could work... and its different...

I was actually thinking about making a stick type chassis. It can work well, plus you can have the ground clearance like a maxx style crawler.
