Default Connnectors?

Ok so I have the battery (lip zippy), charger (triton eq), speed controller (sidewinder), vehicle (crawler king kit) picked out. What connectors do I use to connect the battery to the speed controller, and the speed controller to the motor? Twenty years ago (when I had a Tamyia Blackfoot) I vaguley remember batteries comming with connectors and back then I sodered the motor to the speed controller if I remember correctly but I could be wrong.

Anybody want to help me (again)? Thanks thus far to those who have helped me so far. This forum ROCKS!!!

Deans all the way...

Look on hobbycity.com, or eGay( lol) for the "deans style" connectors... they're knock off's but work fine for crawlin ... they usually sell for $5-10 for 10 pairs...

I use Dean's ultra connectors for the battery and 4mm bullets for the motor, I put the male conectors on the motor side with a short length of 12AWG wire.

The bullets I usually get look like this:

Solder will provide the best connection. It will have less resistance across the connection and will not come apart (like the crimp on connectors will).

If properly sized and crimped, crimp on connectors won't come off as long as your not trying to hang from the connector...

I seem to remember using a deans style connector back in the day. Do you put the mail or the female on the ESC? (Which also determins which on you put on your battery and charger)

By the way I am just about done with newbie questions. Got my grocery list setup and its just about time to order. Looks like Tower Hobbies is the best on line for one stop shopping? If I break the order up into two orders I can get two coupons for $25.00 off of each order and if I join their club for $10 I get free shipping. Sounds like a good deal. Is this the best I can do?

Always put the female deans on the battery. Eliminates the battery being set down somewhere and shorting out. That means putting the male deans on the ESC for the battery side. If I use Deans for the motors,I put the male side on the motor. Not super important to do that, but I've found it handy at times. If you want to check a motor to see if it still works or want to break in a new motor, just plug it in to any of your batteries since they have the female connectors on them already.

John has all you need for hooking stuff up.

+1

I use Deans for battery to esc on all of our cars and trucks. Deans for the esc/motor if it's a brushed setup and bullet connectors between the esc and motor if it's brushless.

For those that have trouble getting a good grip on deans connectors; put a half to one inch piece of heat shrink over the lower 2/3rds of the connector and the wire. It gives you a solid chunk to tug on and provides some strain relief for the wires and solder joints.
