traxxas tq3 help!

so i just bought me a crawler and i decided to use my old traxxas tq3 remote and receiver i took off from my tmaxx. THe problem i have with it is that i have to stay close to it. it can only go about 10 ft. and it stops. Another problem i have is that there's a really long delay when putting it into reverse. Sometimes it doesnt even reverse. Could this be a problem with the receiver or a problem with the esc? if it helps, the esc i have is the sc-1 JR. Please help me! thanks

what crawler
what RX (assuming its traxxas)
what motor
what servo

Some esc's have a delayed reverse and some you actually have to hit reverse twice for it to engage. Most "nicer" esc's have instant reverse with no delay and also have drag breaks. I'm not real positive about this but I've heard some ESC's dont like certain TX/RX combinations. And it being AM ups that possiblity alot more.

How do you have the rx antenna routed??

Frankenwheely 07-28-2009 09:53 AM

Take the 3 channel receiver out of your T-Maxx and use it. That's what I did."thumbsup" No problems.

Yup, make sure your antenna isn't touching the chassis, this will kill your range. If you have it routed such that you can't avoid having it touch the chassis, put fuel tubing on the antenna wire between the RX and antenna tube.

If it is an older RX check the solder connection between the antenna wire and the board.

oh okay. i see what your talking about. ill try check the connection. Also, you think i could use one of the servos off of my tmaxx to put on my scx10?

Greatscott 07-28-2009 05:27 PM

It would be a little weak, but it will work. I'm using a well used 2055 for my X-Trail testing right now, it works fine, it has 80oz of torque. If it is a 2075 you are in better shape, they have 125oz or torque.
