Default 55 turn motor gets hot

Hi, i have an scx10 and i put the traxxas waterprool xl-5 in it cuz i had it around new. Im running a 55 turn motor with a 20 tooth pinion on the stock 87 tooth spur. after running for maybe 10 minutes of running slow occassionally getting on it a bit the motor will get hot but the esc and battery are cool. should i re-gear the motor? you can touch the motor with your finger for about.. 7-10 seconds before you wanna pull away. should i invest in a fan?
-Thanks

What size battery?
If you can touch it that long its ok.
If you cant leave your finger on it, then you gotta watch it!!

20 tooth pinion is pretty big make sure your gears are meshed right
If its to tight it'll over heat.....
I'm sure you know how to mesh your pinion-spur gear but if you don't just use a piece of scrap paper in between the teeth

I had a xl5 esc in my ax10 when I first got it and I had the same problem with only a 14t pinion...
It ended up being the esc. I called Traxxas and they told me that the xl5 is not made to pull at that slow of speed due to amp rate and all( he lost me after not going to work on my crawler) so I got a sidewinder and no issues

yeah the gears are good. if the esc blows i guess ill replace it when the time comes. how well does the sidewinder hold up in water? i probably wont be going in too much water but just for my curiosity. what are other good crawling setups as far as electronics go?
-Thanks

I've got a water proof XL5 in my AX10 and have about 2 hours of runtime on it. Runs nice and cool. Doesn't get much passed ambiet temperature.
