| What to expect at a comp?
I just put together my berg and been playing around with it. I've never been to a comp before and was curious to what goes on or how does it work. I have so many questions so if you can point me to a thread that would be great (or video). I have questions like, who goes first, can you first run the course for practice, what if you roll over/roll back on your wheels, how much can you deviate from the course, what if you break something, are there qualifiers/mains, is rolling back by gravity a reverse, is it one rig on the course at a time or multiple, scoring, rules..., spec rules, etc... I guess I should just go to a comp but I haven't had any free weekends lately. I just want to get some idea of what goes on so when I do get a chance to go I'll be prepared... -Eric |

Some of your questions you can find by looking at the usrcca rules on this forum, who goes first all depends on how the comp is run, some have an order and some are volunteer. You are usually not allowed to prerun a course but again depends on the place and organizers. http://www.usrcca.com/usrcca_rules_2...-09-master.pdf here is the official rules for 2009. 1.read them 2.reread them 3.read them agian 4.repeat steps 1-3, 4-5 times 5.print them out to have a copy with you 6. read them again. |

I agree with the others. Read the rules and then find a comp local to you and sign up for it. You will learn so much just by going to a comp. Most people at comps are very friendly and willing to help you with truck set-ups and any general questions you may have. Also like was mentioned, don't get discouraged! I've been doing comps now for 3 years and I'm still learning stuff by attending comps and talking to people!!

NO, DON'T "PRACTICE" THE COURSE!!! YES, read the rules. As far as what order you go in, you'll see a line of trucks near the start of each course, just put your truck in line and be ready to go when it is your turn. Watch other drivers, see how they are taking the obsticles, ask questions if you don't understand something, just not to the Judge of that course or the current driver while a driver is on the course. If you are running an AM/FM radio, check your frequency BEFORE you power up your radio. Normally there will be someone there doing the 'Tech Inspection', make sure your rig is comp legal before you go, this will be the person you give the entry fee to. If the club putting on the event is in your local area I recommend joining it, the comps for that year are normally free and you'll likely get a snazzy new T-Shirt. Have fun, and don't get frustrated, you have cheater rig **cough**, I mean a Berg so you should do fine. Make sure you understand the rules for reverses and scoring. |

Thanks Guys! That helps alot! I've read the rules and I think I'm going to read them again while on the can. One question about the rules though. 2.1.4 What is meant by "winching down of the axles" is this a 1.9 thing? -Eric |

| You don't see it very often in RC but some people run a electronic winch on the chassis that's attached to the axle(s) with a cable. This gives them the ability to lower down their truck via the radio.

it means you are allowed to use a winch to compress the suspension on the axle.. I dont think you could do this in 1.9 since it is limited to 2 channels..
