| winch cable/rope, and roller thingo. ?
first off hi to everyone. i dont really consider myself a complete newb but i didnt want to clog up the 1.9 section with all its cool builds in there. anyway i have a 1.9 jeep that i made a servo winch for (from info i got off here) anyhoo i got her working and it runs great, but all i had lying around was heavy fishing line. it functions well and is strong i just want the scale look. what rope or line should i use? my other question is the roller thingo that lets the cable go at an angle without chaffing. are these homemade or do you buy them? thanks in adance. heres my jeep : heres a pic under the hood showing my servo winch. the winch hub is a sewing machine cotton bobbin. |

Grab a 3Racing winch.. http://www.shop.rpphobby.com/product...&categoryId=61 Will solve all your questions, plus for the price if it takes a dump on you, you still have a working fairlead (the part you're looking for) and housing... They are strong, and look great..quality control is a bit hit and miss though. But worth it either way |

If you feel like fabing a roller fairlead check this out: Custom steel bumper + fairlead Or you could get one of these non roller fairleads: http://www.freewebs.com/thescaleshop/fairleads.htm |

I used a Nitro pull start cord and it works great for the winch line I used a traxxas ball end to run the line through so that way it feeds the line right back in to the spool and when you winch to things the ball of the ball end moves any direction so the line feeds in and out perfect. Works great for a modded servo winch. Hope this helps |

i used builders line ,looks like proper scaled down rope .. and just screwd two star shaped servo horns together with a spacer between them. works perfect.

At Michael's craft store I found multiple kinds of nylon coated wire (in multiple strand counts, up to 26lbs test, up to 15' lengths) and synthetic cordage for pretty good prices (don't remember the pull strength on the cord, but looked like it would work well for scale synthetic winch line). They also had scrimps and wire guardians. If you've the resources locally, you're probably set. If not, definitely see Kenny's thread. Last edited by JeepinOR; 08-05-2009 at 02:05 PM. |
