Default Should I up grade a redcat s10, or..?

I am new to rc crawling but not to crawling. I bought my first rc crawler a redcat rock slide s10. I love it and have been having a lot of fun with it. However the s10 does have its drawbacks ie lack of power and not a lot of upgrades at the moment.

so do you think that i would be better off not spending money on the redcat and getting something new
like ax10 rtc
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/ind...oducts_id=1929

or maybe something bigger
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/ind...oducts_id=1533

right now I don't have any plans to compete just bash around the backyard. I am open to other options too. I just want to stay around 300.00 to 350.00
let me know what you think

If you're gonna go with the RTC, go here...

Slightly higher cost, but the shipping is cheaper and you'll get it super fast. I placed an order with them last night and its already on its way!

As much as I like the supers (and I really do), its easier to find challenging terrain with a smaller rig. Plus upgrades for the Axial are everywhere and at a reasonable price.

Is that $149 RTR or kit?

i'll be the first in this thread to suggest sticking with the redcat. true, there aren't many upgrades for it since it recently came out, but from what i've read most out of the box crawlers have their drawbacks. whether it be lack of power, crappy wheels and tires, etc...

in the few weeks i've had my RS10, i've only done primarily random free upgrades to mine (locked out rear steer, 4 linked suspension, wiring mod, weight in tires, etc...) and picked up a new battery. i crawl with a guy with an upgraded venom creeper and at the local crawling spot i can take my RS10 anywhere he takes his creeper.

definitely not saying this crawler will work anywhere, but i bought it knowing it would be a challenge finding parts for it. it's part of the fun for me to figure out what works and what doesn't work for it.

good luck with it if you decide to keep it

Well you are the first to say it. I plan on doing the wireing mod this weekend adding weight, and buying new tires ( any suggestions?) because all that is pretty cheap. How did you do your 4 link? I guess after i do all the free stuff if it still isn't enfough I will just have see what think then.

I guess the only reason I am thinking of getting a different one is to get more power and better aftermarket parts. So if i go this way it sounds like the ax10 is the way to go.

Thanks for all the input.

if it was me with the sc10 (and i want the radio out of that thing lol) i'd keep it, AND pick up an AX-10 of some kind. the AX-10 is an anywhere, anyplace crawler. the sc10 does look to have great potential, later, when there are more options for it.

Well I guess that settles it the ax10 must be the way to go. But for this weekend I am going to do the wiring mod on the s10 and relocate the battery to the front axle until I get an ax10. My only concern with the ax10 is it seems to have a lot of parts that could break as compared to a MOA truck.

well, i bought my ax-10 used for a good deal, and drove the snot out of it for 2 days trying to break whatever was going to let go, so i could place a big order and get all the stuff i'd need in one shot. even with the crappy plastic y links. i did strip the stock plastic steering servo horn, but as i said, i was bashing it, and it has a higher torque servo. dollar for dollar, the ax-10 is pretty much bulletproof, unless you're trying to break it, lol.

Default red cat radio

goose i have the radio and reciever for my rockslide i will let go when i get the tq4 lined out correctly.
do you want it for the 4ws controls?

i have the super but i assume the radios are the same. i will not be using it because i just got the punkrc dig switch and will be modifying a traxxas tq4 to control front and rear dig and rear steer seperatly

Well I coun't come up with the money to get a new rig this month so I am going to keep messing with this one for atleast 1 more month. I have some new Rovers to go on it tonight. I am aslo fabing up a front battary plate and 4 link mounts. I also have some alumi hex rod around the shop so i might make new bent links for the lowers.
