They can get pricey. If you include my radio and extra wheels and tires I bring with me I easily have near $3000 retail price. Plus I bring a complete spare Berg with me for parts just in case This is from the spreadsheet I keep of all my rigs. It doesn't make all that much sense without the titles next to it but you know. ARC $120 EnRoute OCM $350 Prototype High Steer and FUBAR Lockouts $75 Replace Bearings $40 Axial Machined HC, Delrin HC, standard uppers $75 Super300 $130 Losi Crawler Shocks with Progressive Traxxas $60 Pro-Line Bug Body $20 Supplies $10 Holmes Hobbies Handwound $90 Futaba S9157 $140 Custom BTA $30 DNA Thrashers x 2 $180 Stock Orange Axial Rings $10 Proline Chisels, HB Rovers and Panthers $130 Robinson Racing x 2 $8 Misc $124 Tekin FXR + BEC $220 3 Cell LiPo Packs x 3 $225 Futaba 4PK $500 Custom Foams $20 See List $213 Total $2,681 Here is the 38 page build thread Harley's "ARC" chassis build |

I'd say JIA's hydro steer Scorpion scaler is up there in price....and that's an OG rig to,built before all these fancy new little gizmo's were made up. |

you can spend 10,000.00 on parts, but if you just throw them on and dont bother to test and tune, properly setup, then all they are is a pile of expensive parts. you cant take cheapo parts and often times perform better than someone that spent a fortune because he did bother to set up his rig right. |

You can take the route I did. Read every thread on rccrawler you can, try and determine a consensus on what would be well spent money. Buy an axial and said selected hop up parts. Test it, tune it, think that it is doing pretty well. Go to a comp. Never once make it through a start gate. Spend more on hop ups. still never make it through a gate. Realize that most people are running hand made tires, wheels, and have access to 6 axis CNC machines at work. Give up on any thoughts of comping. Play at the local park. Total costs, about $2k. I fully agree - spending money will not make you better - unless you are buying a college engineering degree and a CNC machining center (what about $200,000+?). Or, buy a box stock 1/8 gas car. install a box stock .21 motor and radio. Win US Nationals with it - 0 hop ups. One sport is about the driver, one sport is about engineering, 2 totally different sports. Last edited by spiked3; 08-25-2009 at 08:47 AM. |
