What is a lathe motor? What makes it different than a standard brushed motor?

Sorry for askign so many questions guys, but I like to know how stuff works.

Lathe Motor = motor designed for use as a slave motor in a comm lathe.

Integy first rolled them out to be used to power comm lathes. Comm lathes need a low RPM motor with torque to aid in the cutting process. People started installing them in crawlers do to their high torque output, long run times and low speed.

They are no different in construction from a standard brushed motor.

They are only known as lathe motors from their original intended use.

Gotcha, nice to know. I thought maybe the winding weren't real windings, but instead lathed copper or something, lol.
