yeah you really don't need to spend a ton of money to get decent run time from what i've seen. granted i'm running a completely different truck, i get over a little over an hour of runtime on a 3300mah 6 cell nimh battery in my RS10 with stock electronics. being new to the hobby myself, i certainly wouldn't wanna drop $220+ on electronics just to get a decent runtime. i have just over $220 in my entire setup and get an hour easy. don't get me wrong, those electronics are nice, but i could spend $40 more and get another identical battery to what i have and hit that 2 hour mark on 2 packs. just a thought.
