Default Help me understand

So my question is probably a simple one but here goes.... I just got into the RC crawler thing and I see how people have get togethers, comps and such and I wonder this: How can all these RC's operate without the frequency crossing and someone controlling more than one vehicle with their remote?

Thanks

spectrum radios not very many people use AM or FM radios anymore spectrum allows you to bind your radio to the reciever

most of the guys that come to the local comps here use 2.4Ghz spread spectrum frequency radios. basically they change frequency hundreds of times a second and it's nearly impossible to get interference from another radio.

We still have guys that run Crystals at our comps. When people sign up for our comps, we have them list their frequency so that everyone know who will be running what and they can change if they see someone else on the same frequency. We also try to minimize the number of people who have their rigs turned on...

Ah i see now. Yeah the last time I was really into RC's I was little and you had that frequency issue whenever you got more than 2 people together. I didn't know how far things had come since then.

I understand the whole frequency thing but how far does the FM frequency reach. Unfortunately I would think that even though people try to keep frequencies from crossing what would keep someone from trying to sabatoge a comp by running the same crystal as someone they didnt like. I understand digital would be a piece of mind if this was something you worried about but what about some punk kid that just thought it was funny to do?

People sometimes try that in racing. Bad things happen to them.
