Tekin FXR 3s lipo

I'm curious if the Tekin FXR esc can handle 3s lipo anyone running this setup and any problems with it

Thanks

No problems here, you just need an external BEC.

No problems"thumbsup"

FXR and 3cell....

Its a wonderfull thing..."thumbsup"

I have 3 of the FXRs, and I love them.

I do recomend that you do NOT try to run them with out the external BEC. You will more than likely fry it with the 3cell. And then you will have to sent to Tekin.

But, just as JRH said, if you run the external BEC, then you won't have a problem. I have one in my scaler with 3cell and a 35t motor. Works awsome, and the other 2 are in my Super with 3cell and 55t.

????? The FXR says it will handle 3cell lipo then why do you need the external BEC?? Please explain.

It is a linear BEC, so when you up the voltage the BEC power goes down the toilet.

Sweet thanks for the help guys i have a bec on it already sounds like i'm going to be buying some new lipos now "thumbsup"

I don't have a clue what a linear BEC is I just know you know more about electronics than I ever will. You're saying the internal BEC in the ESC will burn up if you go to 3s ? The reason I don't understand this is because their site says ( The FX-R can also take on your power needs with 3S Li-Po compatibility when used with 35 turn or higher motors. ) It says nothing about an external BEC.

JohnRobHolmes 09-30-2009 10:42 AM

For a fast car it won't matter (not much servo needs), but on a crawler the linear BEC will shut down.

Linear BECs drop voltage with heat. The more voltage it has to drop, the hotter it gets.

Digital BECs drop voltage by turning on and off very fast. It is a pretty constant tempurature no matter what voltage.

i run this exact setup on my axial, with a z9100t JR servo. I ran it without a BEC for the first month not knowing about the internal BEC stuff but noticed sometimes in a bind everything would freeze up. Then I added a Dig to the mix, you can only guess that things got worse. I've since added a BEC and everything is back to normal, FX-R + 3s lipo + castle bEc is the right combo for me.

Constantly using a high demand servo generates too much heat & burns it up. You're always using the steering servo in crawling. Is that correct ?

JohnRobHolmes 09-30-2009 10:56 AM

it doesn't burn up the ESC, but it will shut the ESC down.

Can you go again when it cools back down ? This dosen't sound smart to do & I take your word & advice very seriously. I just want a better understanding of it Thanks John

12 tooth pinions with the wonderful HH 35t's on 11.1v with a CC BEC (2.2 setup)
Some guys differ between front and rear pinions, i just run the same.
Tons of wheelspeed with great low-end control.

I run 35t's on my scaler, super and 2.2 all on 11.1v with CC BEC and Tekin Fx-r's. No issues to date.

JohnRobHolmes 09-30-2009 11:06 AM

Yep, once it cools down you can crawl again. Once you overheat it enough times it may just burn up though, so external BEC is the fix.

Krawler Kev 09-30-2009 11:36 AM

Very informative thread."thumbsup" I am running a LCC with a 35T HW and FXR. I have not installed a BEC yet but have noticed the the FXR gets fairly hot. From what I am reading the CCBEC should help remedy this issue.

Thanks again.

What if your motor gets really hot mine did once and dosen't seem to have the torque that it used too. Can it be rebuilt?
