Leopards? Hi guys! I was just reading a thread about the new Panther Leopards and realized that some of you had a couple of complaints about the tire, eg. it wears ridiculously fast, the lugs rip off or the lugs are tearing away near the center of the tire. Anyways... I was looking at buying a set of the leopards but now I am not so sure if they are a such great investment. So, if you guys could help point me in the right direction, towards or away from the leopards, (and why), that would be much appreciated. thanks! |
The leopards are a "COMP" tire. A serious comp tire at that. Most guys who run these tires will love them or hate them. Most people who are serious about crawling comps will be more than happy to deal with the shortcomings of a tire in terms of wear and longevity as long as they perform as intended. My panthers are torn to shreds but they keep working better and better. I have another set on order now since these are only 1 comp old. But I purposely wore these tires down. The are incredible when most of the tread is worn off. From the factory, the lugs are just too tall. they have to start to wear to get a good contact patch and to keep the lugs from folding over. Most guys who are having problems with the lugs tearing off and stuff are beating their tires up like I am! i just simply put a dab of glue on them and drive em. The leopards are a great tire., The just become even greater when you beat on em! To answer your question. I would happily buy another set for just bashing around with. Yup they will wear but then again what tire wont? Just the nature of the hobby. |
I know that I can't wait to get me some.."thumbsup" |
I will sacrifice long wear for grip. If they wear out fast that means there working. The leopard's are the best tire ive ever owned. |

The Leopard is a great comp tire. And depending on your driving style and rig could possibly make a good beater tire. They do wear fast but it is the price you pay for what is in my opinion the best competition 2.2 RC crawling tire on the market right now. |
What kind of foams are you guys running front and rear? I just got a set donated to me and i dont think i have the right foam set up. thanks |

Ill try anything at this point to get them to work. im running a comp on sat in northern ca and would like to be competitive |
what kind of rig do you use |
a Losi comp crawler. Iv got maybe a month or so time driving it. |
You just aswered the problem you are having. IMHO the tires suck when they are new. When they start looking like this they is when they start to work. http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...w800Medium.jpg |
guess i better drive hard everyday till the comp to get these broke in. thanks for the advice guys |
just go do burnouts in the street, thats how i break tires in. |
Plop her down on your driveway or street and do a few dig burns till your tires get nice and worn in "thumbsup" |
